Call for Papers: The Experience of a Lifetime: People
Personalities and Leaders in the First World War
As part of the Centenary History of New Zealand and the First World War a major international
conference, 'The Experience of a Lifetime: People, Personalities and Leaders in the First World
War’ is to be held at Massey University's Wellington campus between Friday 22 August and
Sunday 24 August 2014.
The conference will feature leading New Zealand and overseas historians of the First World War
including Professors Hew Strachan, Michael Neiberg and Glyn Harper. We invite proposals for
papers on any topic related to the experience of individuals in the First World War. Although the
focus of the conference will be on New Zealand, papers on non-New Zealand subjects would also
be welcome. It is intended to publish a selection of papers from the conference.
Those wishing to contribute should by 1 November 2013 submit an abstract no longer than 300
words and a biographical note to the organisers: John Crawford [[email protected]] or
Professor Glyn Harper [[email protected]].
The Centenary History of New Zealand and the First World War is a collaboration between
Massey University, the New Zealand Defence Force, Manatū Taonga-the Ministry for Culture
and Heritage and the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services Association.
