Before authorizing the start of steel erection…
• Concrete footings, piers, and walls has attained the necessary strength by testing,
• 75% of the intended min. compressive design strength
or
• sufficient strength to support the loads imposed during steel erection
Commence after written notification is rec’d
Pre-shift visual Crane inspection
• Safety devices, boom angle indicator, boom stops, anti-two block devices, load moment indicators
• Wire rope• Hydraulic fluid levels• Tire inflation• Ground conditions (no water)• Level ground *
No Riding of the Headache Ball
No employees are to work under suspended loads
Except when starting connections, when hooking up, and unhooking
Multiple lift rigging

Rigged at center of gravity and kept level

Headed steel studs, steel bars and steel lugs, and other shear connectors pose a tripping hazard on the tops of flanges
Attach shear connectors after the metal decking is installed
Covers for Roof and Floor Openings

Covers shall support 2 times the weight of employees, equipment and materials that may be imposed on the cover
Skylights must meet the strength requirements
Covers are to be secured
Covers are to be clearly marked “Hole” or “Cover”

Do not release hoist line until at least 2 bolts are connected at each connection.
Perimeter columns to extend at least 4 feet above the finished floor for safety cables

Workers must be protected by nets, guardrails, positioning devices or harnesses when working more than 15’ when there is an unprotected edge or side.
The maximum area of unsecured decking shall not exceed 3,000 sq. ft.
