DRAFT WORKSHOPfor the
PERSONAL NARRATIVE
DRAFT WORKSHOP -ARMSA –add (content/missing task items)Did I include dialogue? Did I include reflection? Do the ABC’s match my partner’s take?
R –remove (unnecessary detail, repetitiveness, etc.)Do all details/events /dialogue help narrow to fit the moment or do they need removed?
M –move (to create logical flow)Since there is no exact blueprint, does the chosen flow of the story make sense to the
reader? Consider this, especially, if you broke chronological order.
S –substitute (overused/inappropriate words… for style and/or clarity)
Check vocab for correct connotation –think chicken versus craven. Substitute weak/linking verbs for strong/action verbs. Replace the word “said”.
Turn in Reminders• It’s the moment (within the event) that holds the
reflection.• Dialogue helps show rather than tell. Just remember to
punctuate your dialogue correctly. Use your notes!!!• Give it a creative title (use regular font).• Read over the rubric to identify exactly how your paper
is going to be assessed (to hit the mark). Read and refer to the examples.• Type it according to work policy and attach the rubric
and ABC activity to the back.
