Dragonfly Forest is a year round camp experience for children

with Autism and other Medical Needs.

An entire world is often kept from our campers with Autism, 22q Deletion, Sickle Cell Disease,

Bleeding Disorders and Persistent Asthma.

Campers who are used to hearing ‘No,’ from parents, teachers, coaches, and doctors , have the world opened up to them as they hear ‘Yes!’ to experiences they have never tried before at

Dragonfly Forest.

“My daughter LOVES Dragonfly Forest. She talks about it every day. She enjoys the afterschool program, but summer camp is something she “works” for every day. Because big girls that can follow directions and do things for themselves get to go to camp with their friends in the summer!” - Camper Parent

The foundation of what we do is to use FUN to motivate our campers about self-achievement.

yet our campers learn.

Dragonfly Forest strives to foster skills for campers from age seven to adulthood. Campers can move from our regular camp program to our

Teen Leader program to becoming full counselors on staff. This timeline lets them build skills that help them today and in the future as they move

into the workforce.

Adults come to volunteer and work at Dragonfly Forest for many reasons. Last year counselors

came from 22 states around the US … were ages 18 to 80 … were students, doctors, nurses,

adults with autism, teachers, business people, and people who just wanted to make a difference in

our campers’ lives.

“Dragonfly Forest is a place where children can be them-selves and not be judged by their disability. It is a place where parents know that their children are appreciated for who they are!”

62.5% of our campers experience bullying in their lives. Dragonfly Forest is a bully free

environment, designed to be safe and fun. A safe environment promotes growth and a desire to try

new experiences.

The result of a seven year study provides scientific evidence that Dragonfly Forest – a unique educational institution – is a positive force in

youth development. Our campers become more confident, increase self-esteem, develop social

skills, make new friends, grow more independent, develop leadership qualities, become better at

working in peer groups, and learn new ways to live with their disease/disorder to maintain a healthy

life style.

In 2012, Dragonfly was blessed to have wonderful Friends who created and hosted incredible events to benefit The Forest. Events currently account for 42% of our annual operating budget. We cherish our now ‘traditional’ events and we welcome, encourage, cheer on, and hope that new Friends will add to our support by championing new events. Here are highlights of our 2012 Fundraisers.

CAMPtail PARTY In honor of the Summer Olympics we “Let the Games Begin” in June. We ignited our Olympic caldron as our guests created their own teams and battled it out at six Olympic style events. Shelly and Larry Brown provided our very own Olympic Village at their beautiful home. Co-hosts Anne and Matt Hamilton and Marsha and Jeffrey Perelman joined our guests for an evening in support of Dragonfly Forest.

1st ANNUAL 5K RUN/WALKOn a beautiful weekend in May, over 100 walkers and runners turned out at Malvern Prep to run/walk on behalf of Dragonfly campers. This event is set to become a new annual tradition on the Dragonfly fundraising calendar.

DRAGONFLY GOLFThank you to all of our golfing friends who donated golf experiences to Dragonfly Forest.

MARTINIS and MAKEOVERSOn Thursday, April 26th, Bloomingdales and Dragonfly Forest held the fourth annual MARTINIS & MAKEOVERS event. Our guests enjoyed shopping, makeovers, tasty martinis and a fashion show with volunteer Dragonfly models.

YOUNG FRIENDS OF THE FORESTKids helping Kids. The Young Friends of the Forest program is designed for school age kids (elementary through college) to adopt a Dragonfly camper and help raise the money necessary to send them to camp. This year the highlight of the program was our college friends who GOT PIGGY WITH IT. They helped to fill up Piggy banks with spare change to fund sending kids to camp.

2012 VOLUNTEERSAdults come to volunteer and work at Dragonfly Forest for many reasons – some want a summer of fun and some want to give back to their community. This year Dragonfly Forest had over 151 volunteers who gave over 11,957 hours that were valued at $ 267,640.*
