Coaches Corner

Hello and good evening. Can you believe it’s that time of year again and another year is drawing to an end? On behalf of everyone involved with The Dragons, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big Happy Birthday to Ian Foster, who turned another year older this week. Ian is the General Manager of The Dragons and has been a great support in achieving a great line up for the team, so all the best to Ian from everyone on the team.

Tonight’s game is our last home game of 2012, so let’s hope it’s a good one and we finish the year on the high we deserve! For those of you who don’t want to end 2012 there, we are off to Blackburn to face The Eagles, next Saturday for our last away game of 2012. All details and coach departure times are available from [email protected]. All the lads welcome the support away from home so feel free to join in with the support! The more the merrier!!

I’m hoping we are heading into this home game after a great result last night, at Solway Sharks, and that this was better than our last meeting. My prediction would have been another difficult game, but an improvement on the last, as I know we were disappointed at giving them too much time and space and respect. So I’m hoping we have learnt from this and have moved forward as a team.

As for tonight’s game, we welcome our visitors Fylde Flyers to The Dragon’s Den! This will be the second time we have faced The Flyers this season, but our first encounter at home. Last time the two sides met, The Dragons went away from Fylde with an impressive 11-4 win, therefore we are looking to repeat, if not better on tonight’s performance! However, as we have proven this season, you never know how hockey games will pan out. That’s why hockey is such a great spectator’s sport and game we all love.

Tonight, we welcome back a number of players who have previously dressed for The Freeze, therefore it will be an interesting affair!!

So please get behind the lads, make some noise, and be sure to welcome to the ice………..

The Deeside Dragons!!!!

With no games to play last week the Dragons got a chance to raise some money for charity in a game against local recreation side The Flintshire Phantoms.

Arranged by Dragons GM Ian Foster it was a chance to help Leisure Centre member of staff, Dan Percival in his efforts to raise money for ‘Help for Heroes’.

The guys from both sides really enjoyed themselves and saw a number of junior players get first taste of senior hockey as well as a return to the Dragons by their coach Lol Paul who bagged himself a couple of goals!

#81 Jordan Bannon also raised some eyebrows, the ex Telford Tigers player came along to have a skate with the our lads and even when not out of 1st gear you could see he would be a great addition to the Dragons roster!

Your club needs you

DRAGONS FANS, CAN YOU HELP?

The Dragons need helpers, we are always interested in hearing from anyone who feels they can help the club to improve, the club currently has nobody writing match reports. If anyone fancies giving this ago please get in touch asap.

Deeside Dragons are always on the lookout to improve the team, the includes the search for a quality import. This can obviously be a massive expense for the club and we are asking all our fans if they're able to help out! If you can afford a monthly financial contribution during the season be it cash or maybe a food voucher from your local supermarket. We are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have a room or flat for a player to live during the season.

If you can help please email the DRAGONS at [email protected]

Dragons get Bannon

Deeside Dragons have snapped up forward

Jordon BANNON from EPL side Telford Tigers.

BANNON was a junior with the Dragons until

moving to play u16’s, 18’s and ENL with

Manchester Phoenix. For the 2011/12 season he

moved to Blackburn where he had a great

season scoring 38 point from 32 games. After

starting this season again strong for the Hawks

he made the move to the EPL’s

Telford Tigers to improve his

chances with the GB under 20

squad but since missing out on

selection and with the increased

training, extra traveling plus

games both Saturdays and

Sunday has become to much of a

commitment.

GM Ian Foster is delighted to have

Jordan putting on a Dragons jersey “We’re really excited to have Jordan back at

Deeside, he's an exciting young player who will score plenty of goals for us in the

second half of the season”. “A big thanks must go one of our sponsors ‘Underground

Vision’ who were impressed with Jordan in the charity game and helped to make the

signing possible”.

DEESIDE DRAGONS U16’S

Nottingham Away Match Report 24.11.12

As last seasons league runners-up, the trip to Nottingham was never going to be easy, and it was vital for Deeside to keep players on the rink with penalty minutes as low as possible in order to compete.

Opening skirmishes were promising for Dragons, Ben & Louis both pressing the Nottingham goal early on, with further focused pressure drawing a Nottingham penalty, which Dragons Al capitalised upon to open the scoring, with a fine long range shot, with Louis in place for any rebounds. Dragons were playing with real belief, with Lewis, Louis & Ross, always looking dangerous on counter attacks, and Ethan looking solid in the Net. A goal scramble in the closing minute allowed Nottingham to draw level, and Dragons problems compounded taking 2 penalties during the closing seconds, and allowing Nottingham a further goal in the closing moments.

A well managed penalty kill plus fine Netminding saw Dragons re-establish their poise, and approaching mid game with the score at 2:1 Dragons were still well in the game. An optimistic play breaking clear of a scrum on the boards saw Nottingham edge further ahead, and with Dragons defensive zone challenges slowing Nottingham were allowed 2 further scores late in the period.

The final period stats show 3 goals scores for Nottingham, but don’t show that these were from Nottingham moves the Dragons defence would have handled earlier in the game.

Stats for Dragons to reflect upon were, six of the Nottingham goals were within the last 4 minutes of the period, and five were where whilst Dragons were short handed. Dragon’s players have the ability and commitment, renewed focus towards the period end, and keeping penalty counts low and they can compete with the best.

Spirit of the game Ethan
