3: Lay Deck Boards on Pedestal

A. King size-position the three24 inch deck board pieces sothat the pedestal is equallyrecessed on all sides. The cutcorners on the deck boardsshould be positioned at the fourcorners. If the corners are notcut simply trim off 1” - 2” fromthe corners at the head, nearest an outlet, toaccommodate heater andmassage unit cords. Cut allfour corner for a 4 posterframe.

B. Queen size – position thetwo 24 inch deck boards, withthe one 12 inch deck board inthe middle, so that the pedestalis equally recessed on allsides. The cut corners on thedeck boards should bepositioned at the four corners.See A if corners are not cut.

C. Super Single size – positionthe two 24 inch deck boards sothat the pedestal is equallyrecessed on all sides. The cutcorners on the deck boardsshould be positioned at the fourcorners. See A if corners arenot cut.

E. The pedestal should beaccurately centered within theframe in its final position.

F. Next, without letting it slide out ofplace, tilt the frame on to one side.Avoid moving the pedestal. AfterStep 3 you will lower the frame ontothe deck boards which will bemounted on the pedestal. Thisdoes not apply to 4 poster stylebeds. Build pedestal and positiondeck boards inside of 4 posterframe, without moving frame.

A. Lower the frame onto thedeck. Make sure the grooveson the bottom of the footboardand backboard overlap thedeckboards. Re-check that thepedestal is centered and inposition.

4: Mount the Frame to the Deck

B. This detail photo shows howthe grooves overlap the deck.

C. Attach the “L” bracket intothe middle of each frameboardand deck to secure the deck tothe frame. To protect liner andmattress from metal burrs, cover all inside metal bracketswith duct tape.

D. If your waterbed features abookcase headboard, mount itto the frame now. Secure theheadboard to the frame withthe flat brackets screwed infrom underneath theheadboard behind the frame. This step may not benecessary.

E. The padded rail caps slipover the frame edges.

A. Place the heating pad in thecenter area of the deckavoiding the cracks in the deckboards. For Queen or SuperSingle place heating pad toone side or the other. DO NOTPLACE OVER CRACKS.

5: Install Temperature Control Unit

UNPLUG HEATER BEFORE FILLING OR DRAININGYOUR WATERBED. FOLLOW SPECIFIC HEATERMANUFACTURER’S GUIDELINES FOR DETAILEDINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

B. Mount the thermostatcontrol either side of the frame, depending on where you willplug it in. Control unit maymount to side or underneath.See manufacturersinstructions. Use the screwsprovided. Securely plug thecord from the heating pad intothe thermostat control. DONOT PLUG THE CONTROLCORD INTO YOUR SOCKETYET.

C. Run the thermostat control'ssensor tube through the cornerhole inside the frame onto thedeck. The sensor tube shouldbe positioned midway betweenthe frame and the heating pad, preferably twelve inches awayfrom the heating pad.

D. To test the temperaturecontrol system, plug it in, turnthe thermostat up and placeyour hand on the heating pad.As soon as you feel it start towarm up, UNPLUG THECONTROL FROM YOURWALL SOCKET.

A. If you purchased a “Stand-Up”safety liner, you simply need tospread it out inside your frame. Itwill stand-up inside the frame byitself. Smooth out the wrinkles, especially over the heating pad.

6: Install Safety Liner and Mattress

B. Lay out your watermattressinside your safety liner with thevalve at the front. Cafefully avoidshifting any of the baffle inserts, ifyou bought a motion reducedmattress. Remove the wrinkles onthe bottom and make sure themattress is evenly centered.Unscrew cap and remove plug now.

C. Align the corners of the mattresswith the corners of the frame. ifyour safety liner, heating pad, orthermostat sensor tube shiftedduring this process, reposition itnow.

A. From your bathroom faucet, remove the aerator by unscrewingit. (If your bathroom faucet does nothave an aerator, you will have touse your kitchen faucet or anoutside faucet.)

7: Filling the Watermattress

B. Attach the faucet connector youpurchased with your waterbedmaintenance kit into your faucet.Next attach in a garden hose to thefaucet connector. Make a tight fit toavoid spray leakage (a towel placedover the faucet while filling will keepany leakage from spraying.) To helpeliminate unclean water in your bed, flush running water through thegarden hose for a minimum of 10minutes before filling your bed.

C. Attach the waterbed hoseconnector onto your garden hose.Insert it into your “popped-up” valveand attach the hose connector andvalve securely together to avoidleakage. Wrap a towel around thisconnector to soak up anyunavoidable leakage.

D. Pour in your waterbedconditioner. Fill your waterbed withmild to warm water approximatelyone quarter to one half inch belowthe side of the frame boards. Shutoff the water and remove the hose.

E. Remove the air bubbles insidethe mattress. Do this by “pushing”them with a broomstick towards thevalve which is “popped-up”.Remove all the bubbles or they willcreate a “sloshing” sound. You willhave to remove air bubbles again inabout three days and alsooccasionally thereafter.

F. Insert the plug and securelyscrew on the cap. Plug in yourtemperature control systemaccording to specific manufacturer’sinstructions and turn the thermostatto 85. Within 3 days, you can moreaccurately adjust up or down to yourcomfort.

G. This close up photo shows howto insert your cap and plug withoutallowing air to get in the mattressand without allowing water to spillout. Your cap and plug may be aone piece design. Not separate asshown.

A. Place your mattress padonto the filled water mattress.By placing your knee in thecorner of the filled mattress, itsimplifies slipping the padpocket or elastic band over thecorner of mattress.

NOTES: A mattress pad is veryimportant to your waterbed. Not only will it make it morecomfortable, but it will also soakup any normal body oils thatcan deteriorate your mattressover time.

8: Add Your Linens

A. First, unplug yourtemperature control unit. Next, insert your garden hose withwaterbed hose connector intothe “popped-up” valve, aspictured.

Special Section: Draining Your Waterbed

B. Weight down the areaaround the valve with a fewheavy objects, such astelephone books. This step willhelp prevent air bubbles insidethe mattress from getting intoyour garden hose and stoppingthe siphoning action you willcreate.

C. Mount your drain pump toyour closest faucet and attachyour garden hose. make sureyour fittings are tight. With the“bell valve” in the “up” position, turn on the water to put morewater in the mattress. Thisstep pushes the air in yourhose into your bed so you cancreate the continuous watersiphon you need. (If you don’thave a drain pump, see belowfor further instructions.)

D. Once water is flowing intothe bed for a few second, turnthe “bell valve” to the “down”position, leaving the waterflowing full blast. The waterfrom your faucet flowingthrough your drain pump willsuck the water out of your bed. This will take one or two hoursdepending on water pressure.Do not allow air to get in thehose.

E. FOLD YOUR MATTRESSCAREFULLY. DO NOT LETTHE BAFFLES SHIFT OUT OFPLACE. if any shifting doesoccur, you should repositionthem before refilling yourmattress.

B. Properly installed, yourwaterbed sheets will not comeoff because of the large cornerpockets.

Draining without a drain pump1. Always unplug your waterbed heater before draining or fillingyour waterbed.2. Attach your garden hose onto an outside faucet (the hose can go up through an open window.)3. Turn on the water for fifteen seconds. This pushes the air inthe garden hose into your bed so you can create a continuouswater siphon.4. Turn off the water. Disconnect the hose and let it drop to theground. As long as the end of the hose is lower than yourwaterbed, gravity will siphon the water completely out.
