3PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
The Small Decentralized Renewable Energy Power Generation Project, also known as DREG, is:
• funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF)
• implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
• nationally executed by the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) in coordination with the Lebanese
Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC)
Project Start: September 2014
Duration: 4 years
Budget: $1,575,000 from GEF and UNDP + $500,000 in-kind from MoEW
PROJECT PARTNERS
5PROJECT OBJECTIVES
1. Increasing investments in decentralized renewable energy (RE) power generation
2. Setting up an enabling environment for attracting investments in grid-connected power generation by
RE sources
3. Monitoring and quality control for RE-based decentralized power generation
The project’s objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the removal of barriers to
widespread application of decentralized renewable energy power generation
by
61. Increasing investments in decentralized renewable energy (RE) power generation
• Implementation of demonstration projects
• Beneficiaries: industrial plants, private businesses, and NGOs
• Grant co-financing up to $150,000 or 25% of the project cost
• NEEREA loans facilitation with LCEC, BDL, and commercial banks
• Hybrid Operation: EDL, Diesel Gensets, Net-metering
• 1.75 MW target of installed renewable energy capacity Amine, Jil. (2015).
