IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

The California Safe Drinking Water and ToxicEnforcement Act requires the governor ofCalifornia to publish a list of substances knownto the state to cause cancer, birth defects or otherreproductive harm and requires businesses to warncustomers of potential exposure to such substances.

Gas appliances can cause minor exposureto four of these substances, namely benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and soot, caused primarily by the incomplete combustionof natural gas or LP fuels.

Properly adjusted dryers will minimize incompletecombustion. Exposure to these substances can beminimized further by properly venting the dryersto the outdoors.

SAVE THESEINSTRUCTIONS

ENERGY-SAVING TIPS

• Sort clothes by weight so you won't have to run an extra cycle forone or two heavier, slower-drying items.

oDo not overload your dryer. For efficient d_Ting, clothes needto tunable fleely.

oUse Automatic Cycles whenever possible to help prevent overdyingand to save energy.

• Remove garments promptly at the end of the drying cycle and placeon hangers.

oDry your clothes in consecutive loads. Using a "warm" dryerwill save energy.

oClean the dryer lint filter each time you dry.

oClean the dryer exhaust ducting at least once a year. A partially cloggedexhaust can lengthen drying time.

If you do mix various types of fabrics inyour load, set the controls for the lighter-weight fabrics and remove whendry. Reset controls for the remaining heavier fabrics.

Polyester Knits & Permanent Press Drying Tips

•DO NOT OVERLOAD-- .REMOVE CLOTHESGarments being dried or PROMPTLY TO help prevent

dewrinkled should ramble freely, wrinkling, remove clothes l¥omthe dryer promptly at the end ot"the drying cycles.

.PLACE ON HANGERS--Permanent press and polyesterknit garments look best if placedon haugers after dlTing.

The Difference Between Automatic and Timed Drying (on models so equipped)

Automatic Drying

When using the Automatic Cycles, the dryercontinually senses the temperature of the air in thediner drum. Wet laundry keeps the air cool. Whenlaundry is dry enough (and the drum air warmenough) the heat turns oft'. When the air cools, theheat turns back on. This off and on cycling mayhappen a number of times (depending on the fabric, load size and Cycle Selector setting). The CycleSelector advances (when the heat is off) until itautonmtically turns offdryer.

Timed Drying

When using the Timed Cycles, you select the numberof minutes you wish the dryer to run and it turns off atthe end of this time period.

PROBLEM

DRYER WON'T START

CLOTHES TAKETOOLONG TO DRY

SHRINKAGE, GENERAL

QUESTIONS7USE THIS PROBLEM SOLVER

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• D_yer unplugged. Make sure power cord is plugged in.

• No power to dryer. Cheek fuses and circuit breakers to make sure dryer isgetting current. Most electric dryers use two.

• Controls improperly set. Make sure controls are set and the Start knob is turnedto START. Opening the door during operation stops the dryer. To restart, closethe door and turn Start knob to START.

• Dryer door is open. Close door securely dryer will not run with door open.

• Circuit is overloaded. Do not operate other appliances on the same electricaloutlet or circuit while the dryer is operating.

.Controls improperly set. Check all controls to make sure they are correctlyset for the load you want to dry. See the How to Operate Your Dryer section.

• Clogged lint filter. Remove and clean filter before evm T load. Periodically cleanarea under lint filter with vacuum cleaner. See the Care and Cleaning section.

• Improper ducting. Make sure dryer is ducted in accordance with theInstallation Instructions.

.Obstruction in exhaust ducting. Make sure ducting is clean and flee ofobstruction; make sure damper in outside wall cap operates easily. If flexibleducting is used, be sure it is not kinked and is properly installed according tothe Installation Instructions.

.Blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. Check household fuses or circuitbreakers. Most electric &Ters use two. It is possible for one to be blown ortripped and the dryer will still tumble without heat.

• Improper sorting. Do not mix heavy, hard-to dry items with lightweight articles.

• Large loads of moisture-holding fabrics, such as beach towels, take a longtime to remove moisture.

• Too many items in dryer. Dry only one washer load at a time. Do notcombine loads.

* Too few items in dryer. If drying only one article, add two more similar articles, even if du, to insure proper tumbling.

• Some fabrics will shrink whether machine washed and tumble dried or washed

by hand and drip dried; others maybe safely washed but will shrink in a &Ter.Follow _atment manufactmms care labels exactly. If in doubt, do not machinewash or tumble d U.

THE PROBLEM SOLVER(continued)

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE

SHRINKAGE, KNITS

WRINKLING INPERMANENT PRESSAND "NO-IRON" ITEMS

,Relaxation shrinkage can occur in knit fabrics that have been improperlystretched and elongated by the manufacturer. When this occurs, garment maybe pressed back into shape after each wash and dry cycle.

.Progressive or delayed shrinkage is caused when starch or sizing (in somefabrics) is gradually removed by laundering. May be noticed in older garmentsthat have been laundered many times without previous shrinkage. Treat as forrelaxation shrinkage above.

,Shrinkage caused by overheating occurs in certain knit fabrics that havebeen heat-shaped. When washing, drying or ironing temperatures exceed thetemperatures used to shape set, shrinkage may occur. This cannot be corrected, but it can be prevented by washing in cold or warm water; drying on low heat.

,Leaving clothes in dryer after tumbling stops. Remove clothes promptly andhaug them immediately.

,Too many items in dwer. D W only one washer load at a time. Do notcombine loads.

.Too few items in dryer. If drying only one article, add two or more similararticles, even if &T, to insure proper tumbling.

.Improper loads. Avoid laundering heavy permanent press items, such as workclothes, with lighter permanent press items, such as shirts or blouses. Do notwash or dry permanent press with regular laundry.

, Too many clothes in washer. Items must have room to move freely. Permanentpress loads should always be smaller than regular loads...no more thanmedium loads.

,Use of incorrect wash and dry cycles. If available, use Permanent Press washcycle which provides a cool-down rinse to minimize wrinkling. Also, ifavailable, use Permanent Press &ying cycle.

,Incorrect water level. Use large water level for medium load; medium levelor half full for small load.

,Washing repeatedly in too hot water. Wash in cool or warm water withplenty of detergent.

,Failure to use fabric softener. Proper use of fabric softener willminimize wrinkling.

14

Page 15: Dryer - Appliance Parts & Consumer Electronic Parts | … during operation..Any article on which you have used a cleaning solvent, or which contains flammable materials (such as cleaning

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE

TO REMOVE WRINKLESON DRYERS WITH APERMANENT PRESSSETTING

TO REMOVE WRINKLES:

oRetumble on Permanent Press setting.

eRerinse and dry on Permanent Press setting.

• If unsuccessflfl, retumble on normal temperature for 10 12 minutesand haug immediately.

• Iron carefully.

• Send to Dry Cleaners for pressing.

.Some wrinkles may remain which cannot be removed. *

• NOTE If yOUfollow good laundry procedures and permanent press

clothes still come out wrinkled, the finish may not be good quality. Also, inpermanent press synthetic/cotton blends, the cotton portion of the fabric caneventually wear away leaving only the synthetic. Since its the cotton portionwhich is treated for permanent press, a loss or decrease of permanent pressperformance will result.
