The College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics Hosts Faculty from Chongqing Medical University School of Stomatology
On May 23-24, 2017, faculty from the Chongqing Medical Universi-ty School of Stomatology visited the College of Dentistry. The visit was arranged after Drs. Liu Hong, Prosthodontics and Dental Research; de-partment DEO Dan Caplan and Xi Chen, both Preventive & Community Dentistry; and Associate Dean for Research Brad A. Amendt visited the School of Stomatology at Chongqing Medical University in September 2016. These trips have been an effort to establish potential research and educational collaborations between the two schools. Educational collabo-rations may include having Chinese graduate students or faculty from the School of Stomatology visit the College of Dentistry for training, or third-year College of Dentistry dental students visiting the Chinese School of Stomatology for portions of their extramural rotations. The Chinese faculty visit included breakfasts as well as lunches the first and second days, a welcome ceremony at the College of Dentistry, and a dinner, which was held at Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville.

Dr. Julie Reynolds, Preventive & Community Dentistry, and a researcher in the Pub-lic Policy Center’s (PCC) Health Policy Research Program, participated in the 2017 Dental Quality Alliance Conference, which was hosted by the American Dental Association in Chicago on May 12-13. The purpose of the conference was for professionals to gain knowledge on the need for and the goals of measurement to support quality improvement in oral healthcare, ex-plore strategies for successfully leading and influencing healthcare improvement through measurement in dentistry, and examine emerging trends in quality measurement and lead-
ership across the dental care continuum. According to Dr. Reynolds, the conference aligns with the PPC’s Patient-Centered Dental Home (PCDH) project that is focused on creating a method for recognizing dental practices by aligning dental quality metrics to desirable characteristics of a dental home.
