What’s New with Gerontology?

Our Mission Statement:

• Promoting optimal aging for individuals and communities

Our Preamble:

• VCU’s Department of Gerontology in the school of Allied Health Professions was founded in 1976 and remains the only MS in Gerontology in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

• Our mission to promote optimal aging for individuals and communities is evident through our innovative graduate and continuing education, scholarship, and university-community partnerships.

• Our graduates further our person-centered, transdisciplinary mission largely in the areas of Administration, Education, Advocacy, and Entrepreneurship.

What’s New with Gerontology?

• We have newly written: Diversity Statement and

Statement of Values.

• All of these items will be included in your updated Policy and Procedure Manual for 2015.

• We will also have a new look to our website on January 13th, so don’t forget to check it out!

And There is MORE?!

• The VCU Department of Gerontology is seeking program accreditation with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

• If accepted, this will accredit our Master’s program for students educated to become Gerontologists as Administrators.
