Creating mature and responsible citizens
Important Dates For 2017
January 30 Year 7 First Day Back
31 Year 8,9,10 First Day Back
Feburary 08 Swimming Carnival
A cool evening was warmed with singing and good cheer,
sore and tired staff and students were amused and
distracted by the fun. Students performed for the grateful
crowd a variety of traditional Christmas carols and contem-
porary versions of holiday cheer. An impressively mature
piece was performed by the Year 10 elective students
Brandon and Chloe. Archie and Jordan led the carols and a
highlight of the night was the ensemble of teachers that
were thrown together by Mrs O’Callaghan to successfully
present their piece for the crowd after only one rehearsal.
It was met with gleeful applause. The tambourines were
shaken by the Deputy Principals Mrs Thompson and Ms
Foran. The drums were bashed by Ms Yaghjian, the guitar
by Mr Tomesek, the glockenspiel by Mr Yap and myself,
the trumpet was played by Mr Billiards and Miss Thomas
on Flute. Butch on the bass. Leading the singing with her
impressive vocals and tinkling the keyboard was the
amazing conductor and the trainer of the amateur
musicans Mrs O’Callaghan.
When we finished singing our hearts out with the Aussie
Christmas Carol, Santa appeared on the balcony of K block.
He came to join the crowd, sat in his throne and talked
with the children and handed out lollies. Our most
generous and brave Santa was a huge hit as he persisted
until there were no more students to be seen. Even some
adults enjoyed telling Santa what they wanted for
Christmas! The night ended with the whole ensemble
singing Wish you a Merry Christmas and the crowd joined
in. We packed up and left as the last light was leaving the
sky. Mouse was the last to leave. He looked after us all and
made sure everything was safe and secure.

noted that the orgnaisation for this event has been
running for several weeks and I need to acknowledge
Mouse, Villi Sirillo from Clontarf, the Cleaners, the
Canteen, Chris in the photocopy room and the Ladies in
the Office. I have always been impressed with the time
taken for rehearsals, liasing with Staff, Students , Parents
and Outside Agencies in organising an event such as this.

Term 4 16 December 2016
It has been a very busy year for South Campus with many wonderful achievements throughout the year.
I would like to congratulate those students who have given of their best this year. A number of these stu-
dents were recognised last Monday at the Presentation Night where a large number of dignitaries wit-
nessed the awards presented.
Last Friday night South Campus hosted a successful “ Carols” evening with many of the staff and students
providing entertainment. Thanks to those members of staff who contributed and participated during the
evening.
This week our students from Year 10 have spent the week transitioning to the Senior Campus getting a
taste of the environment they will experience next year.
Our school magazine OMNIA is now on sale at the school. You may purchase the magazine from the
school for $25. This is a great compilation of the year 2016.
On behalf of the staff of South Campus I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and best wishes
for another good year in 2017.

Ruan Simms visits South Campus
On Friday the 2nd December 2016 the girls at South Campus had a fantastic opportunity to meet National Rugby League
ambassador Ruan Simms. Ruan is the first female NRL player to sign an official NRL playing contract, she is also the
Australian Jilaroos and NSW Blue’s captain. The girls at South Campus had the privilege to listen to Ruan deliver the
Dream/Achieve/Believe program which delivers key messages about the importance of having goals and aspiration. She
also spoke to the girls about her journey towards becoming an Australian representative footballer and how she overcame
challenges to achieve what she has in the NRL world. The program aimed to engage young females to provide them with
possible pathways into playing Rugby League and to deliver important messages about problem solving, decision making
and developing resilience.

The overall house championship was also awarded. This award goes to the house that has accumulated the most points throughout the year in swimming, athletics and school sport. It is presented to the captains of the winning house. This year’s contest was a close race between last year’s winners Briganera and Parayong, with Parayong coming out on top.

We had the very great pleasure of putting on a special assembly for the Drama, Debating, Performance, Band, PDHPE and Sport on Dec 2nd. Great efforts were put in to the assembly to acknowledge the posi-tive efforts of our hardworking and talented students in our school. The incoming school captains Marcel-lo Davis and Sarah-May Bruce presided over the assembly and presented some of the awards to the stu-dents. We proudly presented awards to acknowledge the contributions of the Performance Group, the band and the efforts of the Drama students in the eisteddfod as well as the impressive work of the Debating team. Mr Billiards played with Joy Chow, Tina Vo and Georgia Mawbey -Smith to perform Riptide, to the admiration and enjoyment of the assembled students and staff. These amature musicians bravely performed their piece and the audience joined in with gusto, livning the performance of the girls and lifting their voices even further. An original performance was written and performed by the year 10 elective Drama students. This playful depiction of a dysfunctional family developed all of the characters personalities within an amusing tale of family discord. The performance group and the Choir entertained the crowd as well with enthusiastic presentations of "Smile" by Shepard and led the school with the National Anthem. This is a group that has been performing together for a short time and have bravely stood in front of the school to share their music as well as providing lovely entertainment for the audience.

Term 4 16 December 2016
Orientation Day for Year 6 into year 7 was held on Thursday 8th December 2016. What a great day it
was with activities such as, tabloids, scavenger hunt and an awesome concert to finish off the day.
The day was a culmination of a transition program that has run throughout Term 4.
The students were able to meet other students from other primary schools in the district and it was
a great opportunity to get to know their way around the high school. We can’t wait for our new stu-
dents to officially start next year.
