Deadline for election nominations
Today at 4pm is the deadline to submit nomination papers to run in the October 20th municipal election.
There seems to be a mix of encumbent, returning & new candidates… so we’ll see the final list over the weekend, for publi-cation in the Monday MMMarket. And not long after that, it’ll be the…(Prov’l) Referendum on Electoral Reform
The 2018 Referendum on Electoral Re-form is being held by mail between Octo-ber 22 and November 30, 2018.
It is being held to decide what voting system BC should use for provincial elec-tions. Voters will be asked two questions:
1) should BC keep the current First Past the Post voting system, or move to a system of proportional representation.
2) Rank 3 proportional systems: Dual Member Proportional (DMP), Mixed Member Proportional (MMP), and Ru-ral-Urban Proportional (RUP).
Register to vote or update your voter info. A referendum info card will be sent to every household. Referendum voting packages will be mailed to registered voters between Oct. 22-Nov 2, which will include a ballot, personalized certification envelope & postage-paid return envelope.
