Dumbleyung Primary School
Dear Parents/Carers and Community Members,
Our last newsletter of Semester 1! I know we all say it, but how fast is this year going?! The
teachers and I are in the midst of finalising reports ready for them to be distributed to parents next
week. It has been such a pleasure being able to participate in the growth and development of our
little people over the semester. We are such a lucky community to have these exceptional young
people coming through. Students will return for Term 3 on Tuesday, 20 July.
Next semester will see some changes to class structures, particularly in the Junior Room.
Mrs Laura Bartram is taking her well-deserved Long Service Leave and Mrs Kellie MacNicol has
resigned to take up a permanent position with the School of Special Education Needs: Medical and
Mental Health. On behalf of the staff, school community and especially the students, I wish to thank
her for her excellent service to Dumbleyung Primary School and wish her all the best on this new
chapter. Thank you and best wishes also to Miss Emily Main, our Education Assistant for Semester
1 who commences her new position in a highly-regarded Pilbara school next term. Your bright
nature will be missed on Fridays. Also, thanks go to Mrs Michelle Smith who has been working on
Fridays for this term in the Junior Room as an Education Assistant. More details about next
semester’s staffing arrangements will be emailed directly to parents when it is finalised.
Of course, last Friday was the Dumbleyung Speech, Drama and Arts Festival. With the addition of
another school it ran a bit longer than normal, despite our best efforts but overall it was a great day.
Dumbleyung took out The Highest Achieving School award, thanks in no small part to Miss Hughes
work in preparing the students and or course, the students themselves. A huge thank you to
Michele Brown for stepping in as Adjudicator and our scribes, Julie Justins and Jenny Williams.
Thank you to Tamara Bartram and Dave Stephens for all your behind-the-scenes work and to the
P&C for an amazing catering spread that ran like clockwork! If you have any feedback on the event,
we would love to hear it.
Our School Volunteer, Mrs Graziella Weller, had her last day with the students yesterday. Our
sincerest thanks go to her for the numerous hours she spent helping the students with their
decoding and reading
fluency. She will be missed
but we wish her all the best.
Next Thursday we will be
having our NAIDOC
morning followed by the
Cross Country at 12pm.
Please feel free to pop
down to watch the Cross
Country. We will then have
a sausage sizzle or toasted
sandwich lunch break and
a presentation Assembly
after that.
Kind regards
Jennifer McCarthy

The Dumbleyung Speech, Drama and Art Festival 2021
Students from nine schools participated in the Dumbleyung Speech, Drama and Art Festival for 2021. There were six categories that students could take part in over the day and three Art categories that were judged prior to the event commencing, by Mrs Patricia Holmes. The following is a summary of student Winners and Highly Commended from each category.
Spectators and competitors were also asked to vote for their favourite piece of Art work for Iconic Australia and the Popular Choice award went to Flynn Bartram—Dumbleyung PS. A final award was given to the Highest Scoring School over the day and the prestigious award this year went to Dumbleyung Primary School.
The Dumbleyung Speech, Drama and Art Festival Committee would like to sincerely thank our adjudicator, Mrs Michele Brown for all the hard work she did over the days adjudicating. A big thank you also to Mrs Jennifer Williams who travels from Albany for our event and Mrs Julie Justins for scribing the Adjudicator’s comments and Mrs Ylana Shepherd for the lovey flower arrangements and bouquets.
Sincere thanks to the parents, staff and teachers from the various schools who helped to prepare the performers for the day, the Dumbleyung P&C for the great morning tea and lunches and the Dumbleyung Shire for all their contributions leading up to the day. Finally, thanks go to all of our competitors. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2022.
