Year 5 students created foot art designs to
show that we can ‘walk the walk’ together.
Year 1—2 learnt about
reconciliation and created
a timeline in the play-
ground to represent
40,000+ years of Aborig-
nals living and thriving on
country. We also marked
the 1998 Paul Keating
apology for the stolen generation and children
who were taken from their families. As well as
the 2008 Kevin Rudd apology which led to our
annual Sorry Day. Our hands represent re-
spect for Aboriginal culture and we placed
them in our yarning circle.
Year 1 –2 have been learning about our Living World
in Science. On Monday we were Palaeontologists and
searched for dinosaurs in our sand pit. We are
classifying our discoveries into living and non liv-
ing and prehistoric and modern. If you find any-
thing in the sandpit please pass it on a Year 1 or 2
student.
Smoking is
Not Permitted
on school grounds.
This includes carparks,
ovals and entrances/
gateways.
This week’s winner is
Harley Carpenter

Welcome to Week 6 Term 2, last week all students settled back into school routines.
It was wonderful to see students returning to school enthusiastic to resume their normal
class routines. We have also gladly welcomed a significant number of new students to our
school this term. As such, it has required us to reorganise the K—2 classes. Parents of stu-
dents who have been effected by this change have been notified. At all times we endeavour
to provide the optimum learning opportunities for all students.
HSC Students—last week the Deputy Secretary for Education, Murat Dizdar announced that all HSC students will attend
school for an extra week in Term 4 prior to the commencement of the HSC exams. The additional week will be used by
schools to provide additional support to students in preparation for the HSC. As such, the Yr 12 Graduation Assembly and
Farewell Dinner will take place after all of our students have completed their HSC Exams. We will notify parents of these
dates as soon as we have confirmed them with caterers.
HSC Seminars—over the next four weeks HSC students are encouraged to take advantage of a number of online semi-
nars. Students have been emailed the registration for each of these. During the first week of the school holidays we will
also be screening HSC seminars from the University NSW for year 12 students. I have attached the timetable of sessions
coming up over the next two weeks. I encourage students to watch these as they provide revision as well as useful hints
and tips for students sitting their HSC exams in individual subjects.
Visitors to the school—Please remember that if you wish to see your child during the day for any reason you should do so
by coming to the front office. I encourage all students to utilise our school canteen for lunches rather than having lunch
delivered to the school. Under the current Covid-19 restrictions, only ‘essential’ visitors are allowed in our school and this
must be via the front office. Thank you for your cooperation with these matters.
Reporting and assessment - A reminder that Half Yearly assessments will take place in Week 9 this Term, allowing more
time for students to demonstrate achievement of curriculum outcomes. Semester 1 Reports will be issued for Year 11 in
Week 10 of this term and K—10 Semester 1 Reports will be issued in Week 2 of next Term.
Cross Country - We have set a tentative date for the school Cross Country carnival on Friday 26th June. The Athletics Carni-
val has been tentatively booked in for Wednesday 29th July.
Please refer to our school Facebook page for regular updates and information. Have a great week.

Speech Programs
@ DCS
This term we are working on our
old sounds from Term 1 and ex-
ploring how our sounds can be
used in words and phrases.
Indigo has been working
very hard on her speech
sounds in sentences. Seanna has been exploring the
world of playdough. It is a lot of fun
making sounds using playdough.
This week in Mathematics we are looking at Australian time zones and timelines. We will be creat-
ing various timelines including a whole class one outlining the history of clocks. The first weekly
homework sheet for this term was handed out yesterday and is to be returned by Thursday. We
will continue with the class raffle for homework completed and handed in on time. I hope every-
one is practising their multiplication tables at home.
Mrs Cathy Gallagher
Welcome to Week 6! We are now officially half way through the term. With all the uncertainty involving
COVID-19, it is feels strange to think we have made it to this point already.
It has been wonderful to see all students back to full-time learning in the classroom. It has certainly lifted
everyone’s spirits. Of course we are still adhering to Departmental guidelines and best practices including
extra cleaning of high frequency areas. Also just a reminder that if your child is unwell or showing any flu
like symptoms, please keep them at home.
Since the start of this year there have been many new enrolments at DCS. Since home learning practices
began, there have been seven new enrolments in Year 1 and Year 2 alone. This has led to a restructure of
our Infants classes to cater for the larger numbers and to create a harmonious teaching and learning envi-
ronment for everyone. Mr Kline now has five Year 1 students in his K-1 class of seventeen whilst Ms Gavin
has a Year 1-2 class of twenty one students.
Last week, all students participated in National Simultaneous Story-time with a reading of Lucinda
Gifford’s book ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’, read by Emma the yellow Wiggle. We are now waiting
to hear if we contributed to breaking the record of one million kids reading at the same time!
Have a great week everyone.
Mr Ben Kline
HOME READERS

living things; what their needs are and how we care for
them. Students have even been bringing in their pets
for News and we’ve had a lot of fun in the community
garden!
