Week 9
Welcome to Week 7 Term 2,
Secondary Merit Awards - last Friday a number of secondary students received Merit awards,
recognising those students who applied themselves diligently and engaged in substantial
learning during the period of Home Schooling. Well done to all students who received
awards. Primary students have been recognised through their Friday assemblies. There will
be another Merit Assembly in Week 10 of this Term.
HSC Seminars—below is the timetable of HSC Seminars for the next two weeks. HSC students are encouraged to take
advantage of these online seminars. Students have been emailed the registration for each of these. During the first week
of the school holidays we will also be screening HSC seminars from the University NSW for Year 12 students. I have
attached the timetable of sessions coming up over the next two weeks. I encourage students to watch these as they pro-
vide revision as well as useful hints and tips for students sitting their HSC exams.
Reporting and assessment - Half Yearly assessments will take place in Week 9 this Term; there is a draft timetable in this
newsletter. Semester 1 Reports will be issued for Year 11 in Week 10 of this term and K—10 Semester 1 Reports will be
issued in Week 2 of next Term.
Students late to school— Students are reminded that they are required to be at school on-time: 8:50am for Secondary
students and 9:00am for Primary. When students are late, they are required to sign in at the Front Office and their par-
tial absence is recorded on official Departmental attendance data. Repeat offenders will be asked to make up the time
missed after school.
School Uniform - all students are asked to please
label all of their school jackets, jumpers and track
pants. They should also check when putting on an
item of clothing that it is theirs. We have had a
number of notifications of students uniform which is
missing. We would greatly appreciate your assis-
tance with this matter.
Thank you to our year 9/10 IT class, Mrs Fergusson and Mr Stanford for erecting the 3 new picnic tables, kindly donated
by our P&C association.
Please refer to our school Facebook page for regular updates and information.
Have a great week. Donna Lane

Library News! Exciting times in the Library at the moment! Over Terms One and Two, students from K-6 have
been participating in a ‘tournament of the books’. This involved us starting off with 16 popular
picture books and all classes eventually voting their way through all of them to get to our top two!
The time has finally come to host our first ever Tournament of the Books grand final! These are
the two books battling it out for the number 1 spot:
Where is the Green
Sheep? - Mem Fox
What do they do with all
the Poo from all the Ani-
mals at the Zoo? - Anh Do
Voting will commence next week so I will keep you posted!
Mrs Potbury
Today in Mathematics we are finishing our unit on Time by drawing a timeline
for the classroom showing the history of clocks. Thank you to those students
who completed and handed in their homework sheets last week. Another one
was given out today, due Thursday as usual. I hope everyone is still practising
their multiplication tables at home.
Mrs Cathy Gallagher
Welcome to Week 7. Our students have shown wonderful skills in the playground over recent weeks, and
staff have commented on how well students are cooperating, problem-solving and organising games and
activities during break times. We have seen most students being active in the playground, joining in a vari-
ety of games that are inclusive and fun. Our sports equipment enables students to develop their fine and
gross motor skills in a safe environment, and we are focusing on looking after our sports equipment by us-
ing it responsibly and ensuring it is stored in the right place.
Congratulations to Daniel Walker on receiving the Fish Award from last week for demonstrating a learning
attitude. This week’s focus is ‘Right Place, Right Time’. Students are encouraged to ensure they are mov-
ing to class promptly, and ensuring they are doing the right thing in the right place at the right time. Those
students who demonstrate this may receive a ticket to go into the draw to win a canteen voucher.
Our first ACE awards were handed out this morning, and it was great to see the big smiles on the recipi-
ents’ faces as they received their certificates. Due to COVID-19 disruptions to student learning, we have
made the decision to advance ALL STUDENTS up one ACE level, to maintain our goal of having students
aim towards Level 5 by the end of the year.
Our word of the day is back, and students are encouraged to use the word of the day in a conversation and
or in their writing each day. We are working on building students’ vocabulary, and this has been a fun way
to try to meet our goal. Students are also embracing the use
of the iPads in their learning, and these devices are
proving to be very useful in increasing student par-
ticipation and engagement in their learning. Stay
tuned for some inspiring film clips currently in the
development process. They are truly amazing!
Finally, we have a growing pile of school jumpers
and jackets in each of our classroom wet areas—
many with no names on them. These will be taken
to the office at the end of this week, so if your
child is missing theirs, please see the front office
next week. Enjoy Week 7.

Unfortunately we are

at lunchtime for K - 6
students.
We apologise for the
inconvenience.
Our class has returned from Covid 19 home learning stronger than ever. There were so many
new enrolments that we needed to create literacy groups and also adjust class structures. Mrs
Armstrong teaches the Orange group and the purple group stay with Ms Gavin to consolidate
spelling, reading and writing. Our focus for this week is below.
Welcome to our new classmates!
We are using our names in writing
tasks including letters and emails.
Year 2 Maths Students in Year 2 have been working very hard in Maths lessons this Term! We have been completing some
very fun activities relating to Position and Data, 2D and 3D shapes and Addition. This week, we are focussing
on Length and Centimetres. Students will be learning about the < and > symbols and will be transforming into
length detectives and looking at how to accurately measure something using centimetres on a ruler.
Thursdays in the Year 2 Maths classroom have been changed to a small group rotation lesson where students
complete different challenges relating to the topic of the week.

In Science so far this year we have covered Earth and Space. Everyone enjoyed learning about
shadows and making a sun dial proved tricky but very engaging. This term we are investigating
Our Living World. We started with discussing living and no n living things and moved onto recycling and making our
won paper. We then discussed living things and have been exploring Dinosaurs. In the next few weeks we will be
looking at the living world of plants by exploring our Community Garden which will then get us back around to the
topic of looking after our planet and hopefully we will have some members of the class join our school Green Team
to assist with “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” activities.
Last term in History we learnt all about our families and we have been using
terminology in our writing. This term in Geography we are learning about
our place in the world and we will be looking at our local community as well
discovering what it looks like to live in another country.

notes, jokes, and ‘thank you’ on their lunch orders, it
really puts a smile on my face. I love that you take the

Well Done!
Afternoon study for secondary students will be supervised by Mrs Gallagher this
Wednesday afternoon and Mrs Hogden on Thursday afternoon, in Room 10
from approximately 3:15 - 4:40pm. We hope to see lots of students!
8 ART
Year 8 Art has recently completed their first Unit of Work that looked at the 7 Ele-
ments of Art: Colour, Tone, Shape, Space, Texture, Form and Line. To complete the
unit, they had to complete a practical Assessment Task which involved mixing col-
ours to recreate a famous artwork, ‘The Green Stripe’ by Henri Matisse. Next, we
will move onto Lino Printing where we will look at positive and negative space in
an artwork and students will be able to carve a picture into a piece of Lino and
then create a print using paint.
9/10 TEXTILES
The girls have been very busy in
Textiles this term and last term! In
their practical lessons they have
created some awesome drawstring
tie dye bags and are now moving
along to create a pair of pyjamas
using a fabric of their choice. In
their theory lessons, 9/10 Textiles
have been looking at the 5 focus
areas of Textiles: Apparel, Non-
Apparel, Costume, Textile Arts and
Furnishings. They have also been
looking at 5 different sources of
inspiration designers use when de-
signing something: History, Cul-
ture, Nature, Manufactured Items
and World Events, Feelings and Emotions. The girls have created many inspiration story boards for dif-
ferent textile items using these sources of inspiration.
11/12 TEXTILES
Year 11 Textiles have been focussing on Fibre Structure and Properties. This includes Natural and Manu-
factured fibres such as Cotton, Wool, Rayon, Polyester, Nylon and Elastomaric. We will be conducting a
burning text on each of these fabrics to see what each one does when reacting to a flame. Year 12 Textiles
are currently studying Textile Innovations such as Microfibre, Bamboo fibres, bicomponent yarns and
washable webs. They will be looking at how the use of machinery has improved construction time.
Have a wonderful week!
