4‑H Alum, NASA Astronaut Encourages
4‑H Kids to ‘Dream Big’
“Dream big…and I mean really big!”
This was 4-H alumna Peggy Whitson’s advice to youth from the 4-H Clubs of Houston and Hartsfield Elementary School in Texas during a twenty-minute in-terview on March 3rd, 2017. And such advice is not to be taken lightly when you consider that it was given by someone 250 miles above the Earth’s surface trav-eling at 17,500 miles per hour.
You see, Peggy Whitson is an astronaut currently living on the International Space Station.
“It is important for young people to dream big,” Whitson told the 4-H’ers. “And I mean really big. Think about things you might not be able to imagine yourself doing. And then imagine yourself there. And then pursue it as a goal. Be-cause you can accomplish it!” - National 4-H Blog

These fine citizens are also looking for others to match their donation to fully fund either a $100 or $250 camper registration fees. If you are able please contact me with your name, email or phone number so we can get this set up. June is right around the corner and registration ends on June 1st. Thank you for supporting the youth of Dunn County! We hope to send at least one or more students that would not normally get an opportunity to do this without a scholarship.” - Chris Gaetzke, 715.231.6540

Indianhead Polled Hereford Association 2017 Sale
Indianhead Polled Hereford Association 2017 Sale Indianhead Polled Hereford Association feels supporting youth and their interest in beef cattle is important for the future of agriculture. Hereford cattle are noted for their docile temperament and excellent maternal traits which make them excellent cattle for 4H and FFA projects. Our 2017 Spring Opportunity Sale on April 8, 2017 is held at UW River Falls Lab Farm #2. This is a great opportunity to come view a selection of 23 heifers, 5 bred females and 7 bulls. Coming from some of the top breeders in western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota, these heifers are of show quality and halter broke, giving you a great start for show season. The bred animals will have calves or will be calving soon to give you a great start on your own herd. Our consignors, as well as our members, are willing to help with any questions you may have from selecting the right animal for you, care and feeding, and getting ready to show. Come watch the fitting demonstration at 9:30 on Saturday morning April 8, 2017 then check out the sale cattle. Indianhead Polled Hereford Association has loans available to help Juniors, ages 8 to 21, to purchase a female at our sale. These Junior Heifer loans at 4% interest, can help pay half the purchase price of a female, up to $1,000 per animal. Example: If your final bid was $2500, the Junior heifer loan would pay $1000 of the cost and you would need to pay $1500. If you have any questions or want an application for the Junior Heifer Loan or a sale catalog, contact Liz Mittag 715-781-2584 or Loxie Smythe 715-505-4747.

Tom Kaufman, General Leader of Knapp Valley 4-H, sent in
these photos of Knapp Valley’s trip to Feed My Starving Children
in Eagan MN on March 4th. They had 19 members and parents.
Spent busy 2 hours, packed food for 6000 meals. Tom says it
was a fun and meaningful time. Recommending it as a good
idea for clubs looking for field trip ideas.
