As the leaves change and the weather gets chilly, so does our desire to get away. Let the new colours of the Natura collection take you to your NEXT Destination! While so many of us dream of a vacation, this new collection makes it possible to open your mind to exploring the world’s beauty in the comfort of your home.

DuPont™ is committed to creating “what’s NEXT” in colour aesthetics and we’re proud to share our insights with you in the fall issue of Counter Culture. Our magazine is all about design and exploring fun, interactive ways to intrigue our customers.

One of the great advantages of DuPont™ is our global reach. We get to talk to our colleagues in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America on a daily basis. It opens our eyes to what else is out there from a global perspective and although design aesthetics differ from country to country, trends often cross over and this is part of what allows us to stay ahead of the game.

“Some of the most dominant trends we are seeing in North America are shades of grey, soft swirling patterns and the marble aesthetic. This, combined with the ‘the practical performance benefits of Corian®’ function, appeals to a broad customer base including those looking for style and convenience. Our industry-leading approach to trend forecasting and the dedicated team of experts behind every colour allow us to continue to produce in-demand palettes for DuPont™ Zodiaq® quartz and Corian® solid surface collections,” says Wendy Mushow, US Marketing Communications Manager.

The new colours are a natural fit for any project. A customer’s decision to purchase a surface from us should be positioned as an investment to ensure that a space is on trend and able to withstand wear and tear for years to come.

“This year’s Natura collection incorporates a destination theme, creating a fun way for you to engage your customers in a conversation about our collection. The flawless flexibility of our surface collection also presents a great opportunity to sell a combination of Corian® and Zodiaq®,” says Britt Becker, Global Color Launch Manager.

As a manufacturer that carries two complimentary surface collections, designers and home owners can use them together for endless design possibilities

After only a few months on the market, the Natura collection has exceeded our expectations. The addition of Corian® Charging Surface and seamless sinks have positioned us for installations in high profile properties such as Victoria University’s CARSA building… read more on page 6!

As always, we encourage you to provide your sales representative with feedback and comments on our latest collections. Let us know what you think!

Safe travels (real or imagined),

The Victoria University CARSA Building – Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities – opened on May 1, 2015. The facility at 190,000 square feet is the size of three football fields. This high profile project includes 1,300 square feet of counters in five different Corian® colours and 2,000 linear feet of Glacier White window sill. From vanities, desks and service counters to a VIP lounge that overlooks the courts, DuPont™ Corian® is the surface of choice for this progressive athletic facility.

“Corian® was specified by designers and architects,” explains Ron Mahoney, Operations Manager at FloForm Countertops. “We were invited to bid and we won the tender.”

As the project began, things started to get expensive. According to Mahoney, there was pressure to cut costs and that’s when the window sills were re-tendered to be completed in plastic laminate.

“We weren’t comfortable with that application,” says Mahoney. “So, we went back to the university with a proposal to go back to Corian®.”

During this time, FloForm and DuPont worked closely with Willis, a well-known DuPont supplier, to put together a proposal and a compelling argument to show that Corian®, being stain-proof, easy to seam and able to handle the moisture unlike laminate, was a better suited product. The university eventually accepted.

In April 2014, the project was back on track and the DuPont™ Corian® window sill installation began.

“The facility has a wow factor; most people can’t believe that you can go 30 feet without a seam. It looks really impressive,” Mahoney explains. “In some cases there are seams, but from the outside it looks like one moulded piece despite the columns and cutouts.”

The university’s recreation manager, Don Chow, was a big fan of the product and has since seen Corian® used in other applications throughout the university.

“They’ve become supporters,” said Mahoney. “The university is starting to spec the use of Corian® in their requirements.”

5 tips to stay fit this winter1) Go straight to the gym

after work

Don’t forget an afternoon snack to keep you energized.

2) Make the most of every moment

Look for ways to integrate exercise into your day. At lunchtime, go for a brisk 20-minute walk to revitalize your mind for a productive afternoon.

3) Don’t let a cold cancel your routine

Try gentler activities such as stretching to maintain good habits.

4) Book an active midwinter escape

A short trip to somewhere sunny can help you beat the winter blues and offers an excellent chance to get active.

5) Be positive

Winter is an ideal time to lose weight as your metabolism naturally speeds up to help keep you warm so you’ll be a step ahead when the warm weather arrives.

“The facility has a wow factor; most people can’t believe that you can go 30 feet without a seam. It looks really impressive.”

Within CARSA, spectators will see Corian® lining the sills and at various service desks and mingling spots throughout the building.

“You can shape it, seam it and rout it like MDF or wood,” adds Mahoney emphasizing the ease of working with this material when seaming around columns and HVAC cutouts.

“Things are going to happen – like chips or cracks, but the ability to repair is extraordinary,” says Mahoney. “You can do all kinds of things with Corian®. We can add pieces easily and buff out a scratch or re-seam a piece of the material that has been cracked.”

A maintenance package was left with the facility, which consists of a simple soap and water routine.

Visit dupont.ca for more information about the DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces used in the CARSA facility.
