LOUIS-----WILDWOOD MO There is a growing number of Indian-Americans that reside in City of Wildwood and surrounding cities and this temple is to cater to their needs. Other Hindu temples are in Bridgeton and Ballwin MO. SITE After a lengthy selection process the Hindu community settled on a site at the juncture of Old Eatherton road (Smith School Road) ,Highway 109 and Babler Park Dr. The 5.72 site is surrounded by the above mentioned three roads. This was a difficult site to work with. Close to half the site is rendered unusable because of power lines to the south which cuts through the site almost at its mid-point. Also the south side is very steep and is not appropriate for any construction. There is also a substantial tree line north of the power lines. The only reasonably flat grade is to the north but that also is the narrowest part of the site. With 50” setback from 109 and 25’( granted variance) from Eatherton Road the potential area of construction of the temple is greatly reduced. The choice was then made to locate the temple and parking to the north end of the site away from powerlines, steep grade and to save the thick tree line as much as possible. The singl story Temple complex was designed in a fairly linear form so as to fit into the narrow north end of the site. The parking was relegated to the south of the building where the site widens out substantially. The entry to the site was located from Old Eatherton Road since there would be little likelihood of getting an entry from Hwy. 109. BUILDING The Temple itself is divided into 3 distinct zones viz. Prayer Hall, Auditorium/Dining Hall and a central Entry Hall. The drive-up entry to the building is in the center of the building. The entry to the temple was oriented to the North-East end for religious reasons. The exterior walls are constructed of ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) and clad with Stucco Finish. The exterior walls are thus poured reinforced concrete walls in a highly insulated form. All the exterior ornamentation around doors and windows are fiberglass and highly intricate. The ornate Shikhar (steeple) and the dome on the roof are also fiberglass and are typical of Ancient Indian Temple Architecture. The windows are aluminum insulated windows with bronze finish. Stucco is typical of temples all over North America because it blends with the temple ornamentation. There will be substantial landscaping around the building and the site as per the cities requirement. To the best of our knowledge the building and site design meets zoning and building requirement.
