1. Introduction

In an era when streaming services are everywhere, there are still cases when music and video

consumers need to enjoy their favorite music, songs, and videos in a completely offline environment.

The all-new DVDFab Downloader aims to offer music fans and videophiles a comprehensive platform

to download online music (up to 320 kbps in quality) and videos (up to 8K in quality), play and

watch the downloaded media files with an inbuilt media player, and manage and organize the entire

media library in a better and professional way.

DVDFab Downloader, so as its mobile app version, includes two basic modules that can be purchased

separately, the YouTube to MP3 (used to be named as Music Downloader for a while) and the Video

Downloader. However, by installing the software on your Windows computer, iMac, MacBook, iPhone,

or Android smartphone, you install the two modules at one go. If you only ordered one of the two

modules, then you can only use particular features accordingly.

2. Download and Installation

2.1 Download DVDFab Downloader

To download and install DVDFab Downloader onto your computer, visit the Downloader’s product

page at https://www.dvdfab.cn/downloader.htm, or the Download Center at

https://www.dvdfab.cn/download.htm to download either the online installer program or the offline

installer, and then manually perform the installation prompts to complete the installation

procedures.

Note that both the download buttons at the Product Page and Download Center give you the Online

Installer, which is a small setup, around only 5MB in this case, that downloads the remaining

components after it is run. You need Internet access every time you want to install DVDFab

Downloader this way. The advantage is that you can keep this Online Installer on your HDD, and it

will always download you the latest version.

However, if you prefer the Offline Installer, you need to click the “Download the Offline Installer Here”

text link that shall download you the standalone installer for DVDFab Downloader. And when you run

the offline installer, the installation will be done offline because the complete software is

downloaded on the first time of download. So, no need of Internet during the following installation

procedures.

DVDFab Downloader also has its mobile app versions. But as of now, only the Android version is

ready, the iOS version will be ready soon.



2.2 Install DVDFab Downloader

2.2.1 Via the Online Installer

Step 1 — Download the Online Installer from any of the pages mentioned above;

Step 2 — Double-click to run the Online Installer and “Click to Install”;

Step 3 — Give it a few seconds to gather required download information;

Step 4 — The Online Installer now starts to download the installation components;



Step 5 — Required components downloaded, the installation process now starts. Wait as it proceeds.

Step 6 — Installation procedures complete. You’re ready to rock!

2.2.2 Via the Offline Installer

Step 1 — Download the Offline Installer from the Download Center;



Step 2 — Double-click the Offline Installer and the installation procedures shall initiate immediately.

Step 3 — Wait for the installation procedures to complete. And then you’re ready to rock!



3. Authorize/Deauthorize DVDFab Downloader

Similar to DVDFab 11, DVDFab Downloader still uses the online verification method for

authorization. To remind you: authorizing DVDFab Downloader requires a live internet connection,

so check your Firewall or anti-virus software settings to make sure they do not block DVDFab

Downloader from accessing the internet. Besides, before authorization, make sure you are already a

member at DVDFab Member Center; otherwise, go Create an Account first.

3.1.1 Upon DVDFab Downloader startup, click the icon near the top right corner of the main

interface, and then from the drop-down menu, click the “Authorize” tab to pop up the Authorization

Window;

3.1.2 Enter your registered e-mail and password at DVDFab Member Center, and then click the

"Authorize" button to proceed;

3.1.3 If the information you entered is correct, you shall see all the license information of the

product(s) you've purchased, and then click "Start DVDFab" to use the product(s);



3.1.4 To deauthorize DVDFab Downloader on your current PC, click the "Deauthorize" tab from the

dropdown menu;

3.1.5 Enter your password and then click the "Deauthorize" button to proceed. You can also

deauthorize all your current PCs at the Member Center.

4. Update DVDFab Downloader

There are two basic ways to update DVDFab Downloader to the latest version, one is through the live

update feature, and the other is to manually download the latest installer which is always available at

the product page and Download Center of DVDFab official website.

4.1 Old-Fashioned Update

For users preferring an old-fashioned way of making an update, simply visit the Downloader’s

product page at https://www.dvdfab.cn/downloader.htm, or the Download Center at

https://www.dvdfab.cn/download.htm to download either the installer program or the offline

installer, and then manually perform the installation prompts to complete the installation

procedures.

4.2 Live Update

Live update can be only realized from inside the program itself, which means only users already

installed DVDFab Downloader can use this method to keep their installed versions up-to-date. To do

that, follow the steps below:

4.2.1 Click the triangle button near the top right corner of Main Interface, and then from the

drop-down menu click Check for Update;

4.2.2 Once a newer version is detected, click the button to download the update

package;

4.2.3 Wait for the download to complete;



4.2.4 After the download finishes, exit DVDFab Downloader and proceed to install the updates;

4.2.5 Wait as the update package is being installed;

4.2.6 When the update package is successfully installed, you are ready to use the newest version.



Note that, due to network reasons, the Live Update might occasionally fail to detect the new version.

When this occurs, users can also use the traditional way to make the update.

5. Help Menu

To open the Help Menu, click the inverse triangle icon available at the top right corner of Main

Interface.

Settings: This tab opens the Settings panel.



Authorize: This tab opens the Authorization panel where you can activate DVDFab Downloader on

your computer.

Deauthorize: This tab opens the Deauthorization panel where you can deactivate DVDFab

Downloader on your computer.

License Info: This tab opens the License Info panel where you check your license status for the

downloader modules you’ve purchased.



Forum: This tab leads you to DVDFab Official Forum, where you can join the community, discussing

the products, posting your questions to seek help from others, etc.

Online Help: This tab takes you to the FAQs page of DVDFab Downloader.

Check for Update: Click this tab if you want to see if there is a new version available.

Open Log Folder: This tab directs you to the location where you can find the log files of DVDFab

Downloader.

Feedback: Click this tab if you encounter a problem or want to send us your feedback.



About: This tab opens the window where you can find the version info, access our official website,

etc.

6. Settings Panel

To open the Settings panel, click the Settings tab from the Help Menu mentioned above in Chapter 5.



6.1 General

Language: Select the UI display language you want here.

Auto-start upon system startup: Tick the checkbox if you want to automatically launch up DVDFab

Downloader each time after your computer is logged in.

When closing the main interface: Choose what you want to do when closing the main interface if the

downloader, you have three options to go, Ask me each time, Exit the program, or Minimize to

systray.

Audio Directory: The default path where all the downloaded MP3 music files are stored on your

computer hard disk drive. You can change it anytime when necessary.

Video Directory: The default path where all the downloaded video files are stored on your computer

hard disk drive. You can change it anytime when necessary.

Download Audio: Choose a default quality level for the music you download.

Download Video: Choose a default quality level for the videos you download.

6.2 Network

This is the place you configure up the network settings for DVDFab Downloader.



7. Download and Play Music & Videos

DVDFab Downloader allows users to download music and videos from over 200 websites. The

downloaded music files will be stored in MP3 format, with varying quality levels ranging from 128

kbps to 320 kbps. The downloaded videos, however, will remain in the formats as they are on the

hosting websites, without any transcoding involved, and the video quality can also vary from 144p all

the way up to 8K UHD.

7.1 Locate the Target Music/Video

There are multiple ways to find and locate the music or videos you want to download at the built-in

Explorer section. Choose the one that fits you best under different circumstances.

7.1.1 Use the Built-in Browser

If you are already watching the video or listening to the music you want to download with your

Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser you are with, then you can simply copy the URL from the

browser’s address bar, launch up DVDFab Downloader, and then paste the copied URL into the

address bar of the built-in browser at the Explorer section. DVDFab Downloader will then start to

analyze the URL immediately.

7.1.2 Use the Popular Website Menu

Right beneath the address bar is the menu where we list the most popular music and video sharing

websites. From this menu, you can access YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Twitter, Instagram, Ted, and

FC2 Video. If the website you are looking for is not listed, then click the “More” icon which shall bring

up a new tab, from where you can then get the access to all the 200+ other supported websites.

7.1.3 Use the Shortcut Hot Playlists

Moving further down from the popular website menu, you can see all kinds of Hot Playlists, such as

the Pop Hotlist, EMD Hotlist, Rock Hotlist, Country Hotlist, and more. Actually, those hot playlists are

all from YouTube. We have them scraped down and listed here as a recommendation for you. Feel

free to take the shortcut.



7.2 Preview the Target Music/Video Online

With DVDFab Downloader, users have the freedom to preview (play) the music or videos either

online or offline both with the external media player, if only the target music or video is from

YouTube. There is a good reason for this — Sometimes, users may be uncertain about whether or not

the music/video is the version they are looking for. So, it would be really helpful if they can preview

the music/video before deciding to download it or not. However, for music and videos from other

websites, you have to download them before you can play. In that case, please refer to Chapter 7.3

7.2.1 Preview from Opened URLs

In cases of 7.1.1 and 7.1.2, once the analysis of the target music/video finishes, three buttons — Add

to, Play and Download — shall appear right under the address bar of the built-in browser. For other

websites, instead of three buttons, only the Download button will show up there.

Click and hold on one of the three buttons, you can drag & drop the buttons to anyplace inside the

main interface where you think they can be better visualized. While to preview or play the

music/video online, hover the mouse pointer over the Play button, and then from the drop-down

menu, click either the Play Video or Play Audio tab.

If you choose to play the video, the external media player shall pop up immediately and start to play

the target video right away, in its normal size.



However, if you choose to play just the audio, after clicking on the Player Audio tab, you will notice, at

the bottom of the main interface where the play bar of the external media player is located, the music

already starts to play there.

Yet, you can still switch the media player to its normal size. To do that, hover the mouse pointer over

the thumbnail at the left-hand side of the play bar, an angle-double-up icon shall appear. Click on it,

you can expand the player screen to its normal size, and reversely, click on the angle-double-down

icon at the same place when the player is at the normal size, you can collapse it into the play bar

again.



Sidenote:

i. The Add to button allows you to add the target music/video to the Favorites list, to the

current playlist to be played up next, or to your own created playlist, and to save the playlist

if it’s already a playlist.

7.2.2 Preview from the Hot Playlists

In case of 7.1.3, where the Hot Playlists of the latest trending music videos from YouTube are listed,

users can directly preview the music videos there. To do that, hover the mouse pointer over the

thumbnail picture of a specific Hotlist, the Pop Hotlist, for example, two buttons — Play and

Download — shall show up. Click on the Play button to preview the music video.

7.3 Download the Target Music/Video

Once you’ve made up your mind to download the music/video, click on the Download button, and

then click the Audio Only tab to download only the music to an MP3 file, or the Video tab to

download the video as its original format. If it’s a playlist, then click the Playlist tab to download all

the music/videos under that playlist.

In either case, the program shall start to download the music/video immediately, on one condition

that you’ve previously set up the default audio/video quality for your download at the Settings panel.

Otherwise, a popup shall come up and ask you to choose your preferred audio/video quality to

download (see the pic below). To prevent the popup from showing up again next time, tick the

checkbox of Remember my choice.

Download an Entire Playlist

To check the real-time download status, go to the left-side panel, and navigate to My Music >

Downloads > Downloading.

Sidenotes:

i. As a paid user, you can let the program to process maximally five download tasks

concurrently to enhance the overall performance. The free version, however, only allows you

to perform one download task at one go, with the rest lining up and waiting.

ii. Also, as a paid user, you can turn on the Turbo-Speed to dramatically accelerate the

download speed, approximately ten times faster than the normal speed. This can be

extremely helpful, especially when you are downloading an entire playlist that contains tens

of songs/videos, or there are a couple of tasks waiting in the queue.

iii. As a bonus feature, in the process of downloading music/videos from YouTube and other



websites, the metadata information, such as the album cover art, release info, artist, duration,

together with some other useful information, will also be downloaded and remuxed into the

downloaded MP3/video files.

iv. When previewing the music/video with the external media player from YouTube, you can

also download the music/video being played from the player interface directly. The

download button — the small downward arrow — is positioned at the bottom left part of the

interface, beside the thumbnail and right next to a heart icon.

7.4 Play the Downloaded Music/Videos Offline

As mentioned earlier, DVDFab Downloader included an external media player of its own, so that

users don't need a 3rd party player software to play the downloaded media files. To play back the

downloaded music or videos, go to the left-side panel, navigate to My Music > Downloads. Next, click

the Music or Video tab respectively to play whatever you want to.

7.4.1 Play the Music MP3s

Go to the Music tab, hover the mouse pointer over the music title you want to enjoy, you will notice,

at the end of the line under the Operate column, four icons — Play, Plus, Downward Arrow and

Three-Dots — shall appear. Click on the Play button to play that music title with the external media

player.

Besides, you may want to include all the downloaded music into a temporary playlist to enjoy. To do

that, click the Play All button right under the Music tab.



7.4.2 Play the Videos

Go to the Video tab, hover the mouse pointer over the video’s thumbnail, you will notice, at the

bottom right corner of the thumbnail, the Play button shall appear. Click on it to play that video with

the external media player.

Similarly, you may want to include all the downloaded videos into a temporary playlist to enjoy,

especially when those videos belong to the same series. To do that, click the same Play All button

right under the Music tab.



7.4.3 The External Media Player

The importance of this external media player, how to call it up, how to expand it from the mini pay

bar and how to collapse it back into the play bar have been discussed multiple times in previous

sections. So, there is no need to be repeated here. In this section, the features of the media player are

what will be detailed.

All the buttons and icons with different functions are located in the bottom play bar.

Right next to the thumbnail houses a Heart icon that adds the music/video being played into the

Favorites list, and a small downward arrow icon that downloads the music/video being played;

The five buttons harbored at the center of play bar are for playback controls — the 1st button

controls the order how you play the music or videos, and it varies as you change the playback mode

among Repeat All, Repeat Single, Sequential and Shuffle; the 2nd one plays previous music title/video;

the 3rd is the Play/Pause button; the 4th plays next music title/video, and the last is the volume±

button;



At the right-hand side of the play bar, you can see the timestamp, a switch to adjust the playback

speed between 0.5X and 1.5X, and a Playlist icon via which, you can check how many music titles and

videos are in your current playlist.

8. Organize & Manage the Downloaded Media

DVDFab Downloader organizes and manages its downloaded media contents at My Music >

Downloads. All the downloaded music is categized under the Music tab, and videos under the Video

tab.

8.1 Manage Music

The Play All button under the Music tab lets you play all the downloaded music in



current order; the Delete All button next to it completely deletes all the downloaded

music;

To change the music order, you can click the small triangle buttons to sort the music by

title name, artist and duration;

Right-click on a specific title, a drop-down menu shall pop up, from where, you can play

the selected title, add it to the current playlist to be played up next, add to a specific

playlist, move to a specific playlist, download the different versions of this title, copy its

source URL, open its source page with the built-in browser, open its containing folder on

your HDD, or delete the title if you want. The horizontal three-dots icon at the end of

that title line can also bring up the same drop-down menu as well.

When adding the selected title to a playlist, you can also add it to a new playlist. To do

that, choose the Add to Playlist tab from the drop-down menu > New Playlist, or create a

new playlist from the left-side panel, Created Playlists section, using the plus (+) icon. In

both cases, you need to name your new playlist.

Besides, you are also allowed to directly add your target music from YouTube, without

downloading it first, using the Add to button.



8.2 Manage Videos

Compared to managing music, the management of videos is much easier.

The Play All button adds all the videos into a temporary playlist to play them in order, and the Delete

button deletes them all.

There are fewer items in the drop-down menu of a specific video, which all work in the same way as

that of a music title’s drop-down menu.
