Fords & Friends Car Show & Shine The 35th annual Fords & Friends Car Show & Shine was held on Sunday July 19 at Heritage Acres and is easily classified as a solid success. Attendance was very strong with close to 225 excellent show cars and trucks. Once again, we were blessed with great weather and excellent attendance. Many favorable comments from the public along with creative suggestions from several fellow enthusiasts were sincerely appreciated. The EFV8 show remains as the premier car show for the greater Victoria area and once again, all the club members are to be commended for stepping up and helping to make this a winner once again. Special thanks are in order to Lauri Stevens and Bruce Somers for all their hard work in coordinating this year’s show. Many additional photos are available for viewing on the club website at www.earlyfordv8victoria.com Thanks again to everyone for all the energy and expertise.

Garage sale; Vic will hold a majot garage sale in August. EFV8 members are invited to preview a large selection of flathead parts and blocks.
Wanted by Bob Cox. I am looking for a couple of door lock clips for the Ranchero. Need these to be able to finish putting together the doors so I can get the door panels back together. Don’t ask where these went to during the project only excuse is that they are small! Hopefully someone in the Club has some of these tucked away in a drawer or knows where I can find them.
The metal clips are 59/64ths of an inch long and the nylon insert is 7/32 of an inch long. The metal barrel clip that holds the arm is 1/8” inside diameter and the plastic (nylon) arm is 13/32” inside diameter. Hopefully the picture shows everything clearly enough. They are a pretty standard part – assuming you can find a source. I would like to get a hold of a least 3 of these – better safe than sorry.

Just for Laughs Subject: Aging Golfers Thank you Lauri Stevens!!
A group of golfing buddies, all in their 40's, discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it
was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because it wasn't far from the course, the waitresses were young, good looking, showed lots of cleavage and wore short-shorts. Ten years later, at age 50, the golfing buddies once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because the food and service was good, they had many televisions to watch the games on, and the beer selection was excellent. Ten years later, at age 60, the gang again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because there was plenty of parking, they could dine in peace, and it was good value for the money. Ten years later, at age 70, they discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had a toilet for the disabled. Ten years later, at age 80, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at Hooters because they had never been there before.
Do you remember what this was used
for? Lauri S does!!

Henry Ford writes fan letter to Mahatma
Gandhi
On this day in 1941, the American automaker Henry Ford sits down at his desk in
Dearborn, Michigan and writes a letter to the Indian nationalist leader Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi. The letter effusively praises Gandhi and his campaign of civil
disobedience aimed at forcing the British colonial government out of India.
By July of 1941, Ford’s pacifist views led him to despair at the current global situation:
Nazi Germany had invaded Poland, causing Britain and France to declare war against it.
The United States, led by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was firmly on the side of the
Allies, but Ford was convinced that the country should remain neutral, despite mounting
pressure from the government for his company to start mass-producing airplanes to help
defeat the Nazis. The previous May, Ford had reluctantly bowed to this pressure, opening
a massive production facility for airplane production at Willow Run, near Dearborn, to
manufacture B-24E Liberator bombers for the Allied war effort.
As Douglas Brinkley writes in “Wheels for the World,” his history of Ford Motor Company,
the automaker disliked imperialism and was hopeful that Gandhi’s campaign would
succeed in pushing the British out of India and establishing Indian home rule. In addition,
Ford Motor Company had long enjoyed healthy sales in the cities of Bombay (now
Mumbai) and Calcutta. Ford’s letter to Gandhi, now included in the Henry Ford Museum
and Library, read: “I want to take this opportunity of sending you a message…to tell you
Page | 22 July 2015
how deeply I admire your life and message. You are one of the greatest men the world
has ever known.”
The letter was sent to the Mahatma (as Gandhi was known) via T.A. Raman, the London
editor of the United Press of India. According to Raman, Brinkley recounts, Gandhi didn’t
receive the letter until December 8, 1941–the day after the Japanese attacked Pearl
Harbor. Greatly pleased, he sent in response a portable spinning wheel, one of the old-
fashioned devices that Gandhi famously used to produce his own cloth. The wheel,
autographed in Hindi and English, was shipped some 12,000 miles and personally
delivered to Ford by Raman in Greenfield Village, Michigan. Ford kept it as a good luck
charm, as well as a symbol of the principles of simplicity and economic independence that
both he and Gandhi championed.
