FROM OUR PRESIDENTFamilies are a child’s fi rst teacher. It is a privilege to partner with families as we work together to care for and teach their young. A child learns best through their everyday experiences with the people they love and trust, and when the learning is fun. These relationships create the basis for learning over the course of a child’s life. Building a secure attachment fosters a child’s ability to learn. Research has shown that secure attachments lead to positive self esteem, independence, lasting relationships, empathy, compassion and resiliency later in life.

We dedicate this annual report to the families that continue to provide love and security to their children. We are grateful that our family partners trusted us with their children during a year that love and connection was greatly more essential to everyone’s existence.

Dr. Karen L. McCoy, President

FROM OUR BOARDToledo Day Nursery, TDN, will be celebrating one hundred and fi fty years of existence this year. We are one of the oldest child care organizations in the U.S. Each of our three locations is staffed with dedicated professionals whose mission is to provide the very highest quality early childhood education. Appropriate ratios are maintained to ensure proper oversight.

Under the leadership of Dr. McCoy, all three of our locations continue to be rated “fi ve star” by Ohio’s tiered rating system. This is the highest rating that can be achieved. The rating system is based on national research which identifi es standards that lead to improved outcomes for children in need.

Every member of our board dedicates their time to support the mission and vision of TDN. We look forward to many more years of serving Toledo area children and families. As the newly elected Board Chair, I am proud to continue to be part of TDN and look forward to many more great achievements.

Jace’s Mom, Brooke”My son, Jace has been attending TDN since he was about six weeks old. Jace is now three and I wouldn’t consider enrolling him anywhere else. His teachers have been amazing. They took time to get to know his likes and dislikes, triggers, hobbies, etc. He has learned so much and is always talking about his teachers and friends at “school”. Thank you so much TDN for all you do!”

Bailey’s Mom, Angelica“I chose TDN because it literally felt like the perfect place for my daughter Bailey. They offered a safe, clean and welcoming environment, an experienced staff and a step-by-step curriculum. At TDN’s Stickney Center, I found teachers that asked, “Is there anything you would like us to work on with your child”? Bailey has been at TDN since she was 16 months old and she’ll be fi ve this year. My second daughter will be enrolled there soon”.

Jamal’s Mom, Shia“I would like to say thank you to everyone at Toledo Day Nursery for the attention you give to my son Jamal. It is evident that everyone cares about him. No matter which staff member or teacher takes him he is very willing to be held. It is comforting to know he is in such loving hands”.

Foster Parent: Glyndale“I am a foster parent of two toddlers enrolled at TDN. For eight months, it’s been truly rewarding to see their day-to-day progress. I’m confi dent knowing my little ones are safe and well cared for, and even at the tender ages of 17 and 20 months, are receiving the best education. Every day is a great adventure at TDN and for the level of care they provide I give them an A+”.

Xavier’s Mom, Kanayah“A friend of mine referred me to TDN and we fell in love with them the very fi rst day. The staff welcomed me and welcomed my baby, Kanayah, like he was their own. They were very respectful of our wishes and shared a pic with us to assure the baby was in good hands”.

Aleena’s Mom, Shannon“Toledo Day Nursery was my choice for many reasons. One of them is, I have two older children that attend Rosary Cathedral School and it is very convenient for my daughter Aleena to attend the TDN classroom at Rosary. I love the staff and the teachers are beyond friendly. Aleena comes home every day and tells me about her time in class. TDN is a very hands-on and caring place to send your child”.
