Comprised only of remnant stone and redesigned into something of immense beauty that can last decades, with no maintenance, no chemicals and very little embodied energy is nothing to scoff at. Our goal to move our entire company to 100 percent stone utilization is furthered through this beautiful line of patterns that borrow inspiration from nature’s architecture.

We are proud to team up with Jason F. McLennan, one of the leading thinkers and designers in the green building industry, to conceive and launch this new product line. McLennan is the founder and author of the Living Building Challenge, the world’s most progressive and stringent green building program, the author of several leading texts on green building and the winner of the Buckminster Fuller Prize.

For the last several years we have been working together to benchmark and reduce the environmental impacts of our operations. Through this collaboration this unique partnership emerged and a new product line — Earth Measure is the result.

Earth Measure - Environmental Benefits Here are just a few of the benefits to consider:

From Waste to Useful ProductRemnant stone from other stone products that are normally ground up as aggregate or left in piles are now utilized fully within Earth Measure. No new quarrying is required. This is natural stone in its natural state. Also, since our product ships in its final dimensions, no further stone is lost on-site by having to hand-shape stone pieces.

Local Stone/Domestic StoneWith quarries all over the US and in one Canadian Province, you can source local and regional stone for most locations. Due to our unique process we can also bring Earth Measure to your local quarry or repurpose existing salvaged stone if the project is the right size. Either way we believe that sourcing from domestic materials is the right choice.

Low Embodied EnergyNatural stone, since it is minimally processed, enjoys a lower embodied energy than almost any material it replaces. And each year, Coldspring looks for further ways to lower its energy usage for making finished products. We have in fact lowered our energy usage by 20% since 2005 through a long list of energy saving practices.

A 500-Year SolutionStone is one of the most durable materials you can use for any application. When specified and detailed correctly, our products can last for hundreds of years — resulting in some of the lowest embodied energy of any material.

Habitat ImpactsSince we use only remnant stone, there are no new habitat impacts associated with Earth Measure. When its useful life is over, as natural stone it can be safely returned to the landscape with zero negative environmental impacts.

The MUD Series creates a beautiful wall or paving design that

evokes the natural shapes of the earth drying. Available in any

of our stones or mixed with wood or glass, it’s a highly unique

biophilic design statement. Several discrete pieces combine

to produce a seemingly random pattern suitable for walls or

Regional Sourcing If regional sourcing is important to you then the new Earth Measure product line is perfect for your next project. Earth Measure will allow you to sort for the local/regional stone in your area or particular radius. Coldspring has quarries and remnant stone in multiple locations around the US and Canada. In addition, thanks to our patented process, for projects of adequate size, we are available to bring our process to your community and use local stone of nearly any type.

Materiality The new Earth Measure product line is intended to be versatile and creatively used. Available in any of our stone types and with a variety of finishes, it allows for a near infinite variety of aesthetic outcomes for pavers or wall panels. Extending this versatility even further, Earth Measure is also compatible with other materials through our partners.

Wood Our wood partners can provide custom wood pieces to match any of our patterns- available in FSC and salvaged cedar, maple and other species.

Glass Coldspring has a reliable source of beautiful custom glass who can provide a variety of recycled glass tiles with creative finishes.

Earth Measure — A Unique ProcessWorking with our Earth Measure product line is designed to be a unique and rewarding process for leading edge architects, landscape architects and interior designers. We enjoy the process of collaboration and have designed a system that allows for a high degree of customization within a curated set of options.

1. Pick Your PatternPick the pattern that appeals to you. Keep in mind that each pattern is customizable.

2. Pick Your MaterialWe recommend looking at our local/regional stone options, which we’ll show you relative to your project location. It is possible to mix stone type, colors and style with mortar joints and edge finishes. We can also create elements in glass and wood with our partners as described.

3. CAD Diagram and Sample BoardBased on your selected design, we prepare the layout so that the patterns best fit your project needs. We can send a CAD diagram for you to proof digitally.

4. Pattern CreationWhen the design is approved, each stone is shaped using state of the art water cutting technology.

5. Job Site Shipping We coordinate delivery so each pallet is placed on the ground right where the stones will be set for minimal handling during installation.

6. Returnable Packaging and Zero WasteEarth Measure is designed so that there is zero packaging waste involved. Each shipment is sent via a recyclable polypropylene bag and reusable pallet constructed of sustainable material. Once you are done with assembly, simply place all bags into one bag and we will arrange to pick it up for reuse.

7. Admire Your ProjectWe believe that Earth Measure brings out the best in any project — beautiful, natural stone designed to honor the uniqueness of the natural environment within the built environment.

8. OffsetsIf you are interested in providing habitat or carbon offsets for your project, we are happy to help estimate the Earth Measure portion of the offset.
