Join or Renew Your EBCA Membership Now for 2015!The 2015 East Bay Claims Association Membership Drive is now in full swing! Annual membership do provide a significant fi-nancial support to the organization. And, a strong membership helps to keep a non-profit like EBCA viable and alive. Without all of us together there would be no EBCA. “We really appreciate all the support this organization has enjoyed the past several years,” stated EBCA President Joe Baughman. Overall membership and meeting attendance has been consistent and substantial. Still, the sense that there aren’t many adjust-ers at any given function remains pervasive. “As with all our sister groups, we con-tinue to encourage the carrier claims people and independent adjusters participate, and to become more in-volved,” Joe added. “East Bay Claims Association is always committed to maintaining a high degree of pro-fessional courtesy within our ranks.”

The organization has been actively taking measures to contin-ue to raise its standing within the community at large, as well.As an established charitable 501c(3) non-profit organization, EBCA has added the status of the Continuing Education Pro-vider credential to the reasons to be more involved. There seems to be a bit of a revival of carriers supporting their claims people joining and supporting their local associations.

The EBCA Board has opted to continue to offer annual FREE Memberships to insurance claims adjusters. Com-pletion and submission of a simple membership application now allows all such claims people the benefits of membership. Sign up or renew now at www.EastBayAdjusters.org.

22nd Annual Claims Conference Planning Underway

the newly formed CCNC 2015 planning committee elected “Hot August Claims” as their theme for the event, as they start the new year. Comprised of representatives of local and regional insurance claims associations, the CCNC holds fast to its long-standing tradition and reputation for a top-notch continuing education conference and trade-show.

Incoming President, Jack Corry, and Vice President, Tami Umland, both representatives of the Sacramento Claims As-sociation, have laid the groundwork for what appears to be top-notch dynamic event. “Hot August Claims” is a theme befitting not only the Summer timing of the event, but in a big way plans for a sizzling confer-ence and trade show. With the early dates this year, the committee is positioning itself to get off on the right foot. Exhibit booth registration and sponsorship options are both scheduled to open in early February for returning exhibitors and sponsors, respectively. Following three years of experimenting with a CCNC Dinner Banquet, the committee agreed to forego the banquet this year. By all appearances, most folks prefer to have the time between the end of the first day and the evening’s casino night be left

Ever-learning, ever-growing, the Claims Conference of Northern Calfiornia, Inc. - a California non-profit corporation - is off and running with planning for the 22nd annual event. To be held Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11-12, 2015,

Staples Returns for Annual EBCA Case Law Review

East Bay Claims Kicked off the New Year with their regular second Wednesday Luncheon, Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Zio Fredo’s in Pleasant Hill.Perennial guest speaker, Attorney Bill Staples, of Archer Norris, presented an overview of the most interesting cases from 2014. "I am not here to preach law,” Staples said. “I am bringing you light-hearted cases."He referenced a number of cases he found significant, interesting, and some amusing. While he did not bother to site the cases specifically, he did say that if anyone needed that information he would be happy to provide it.One of the most significant cases he touched on involved an adjuster who basically crossed the line with his insured, and ultimately getting personally named in a subsequent lawsuit for mistreatment of his Insured. Staples cautioned to be careful not to cross the line.Michelle Windsor-Baughman won the 50/50/raffle prize. Please join us for the first EBCA Continuing Education Course February 11, 2015. It’s a free morning session, running from 8:30 to 11:30 at Zio Fredo’s. Three (3) CE credits will be provided. See the next page for details. The regular Monthly Luncheon will follow.

DNA of Fire Investigations “Sword Or Shield”at February 11, 2015 EBCA - Free morning CE course to provide three (3) Continuing Ed creditsfollowed by regular luncheon meeting

“The DNA of Fire Investigations – NFPA 921 – Sword or Shield ” This program utilizes visually compelling fire cases to illustrate effective foren-sic fire investigations. The discussion evolves to the discussion of the evaluation of the expert and their findings. The insurance claims professional’s responsibilities extend beyond the technical abili-ty to resolve issues of: coverage, liability and dam-ages. The process of investigation, evaluation and resolution is one that relies on good judgment to discharge their contractual responsibilities to their customers. The insurance claims professional’s re-sponsibilities include the demanding challenge of evaluating the technical abilities of experts. The investigation, evaluation and resolution of cover-age, liability and damages require good judgment to discharge their contractual responsibilities to their customers. They aren’t expected to be ex-perts. They are expected to use good judgment in evaluating experts.

BLUE SKY DAWNS NEW NAME - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BRIGHT LEAF CLEANERS

“I would like to announce that Blue Sky Cleaners has under-gone a name change, to Bright Leaf Cleaners,” stated John Morrison, President of Resto-ration at Bright Leaf Cleaners.

“We are the fabric restoration and dry cleaning experts that specialize in the recovery of clothing and textiles damaged by fire, smoke, water and mold,” he explained. “We can also provide you with an emergency order of clothing and other items to help those affected resume everyday life,” he continued. “In most cases, emergency orders can be completed and returned within 24–48 hours.” A proud member of North American Restoration Drycleaners, Bright

open to explore some of the fine dining in the immediate area adjacent to the Hyatt Regnecy in Downtown Sacramento. Additionally, the opening night welcoming festivities will left to wishing to partake within their own groups. “We started the welcome reception concept as a thank you to our exhibitors some years ago,” said returning Exhibitor Committee CoChair, Lisa Winn. “As it was expanded with the early afternoon opening session to a general event, most have found the reception has become unnecessary.” “We are excited about topics on the discussion table, and po-tential presenters for this year,” stated an enthusiastic President Corry. “CCNC is an event people look forward to, and we are committed to making it the best we can,” he added. Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months for more. Site updates will be forthcoming at www.ClaimsConference.org, or Like the CCNC Facebook page: www.facebook.com/TheCCNC.
