Upcoming Pastoral Council Elections – Call to Serve: We are preparing for our yearly Saint Bridget Pas-toral Council transition and are looking for Parish mem-bers who are interested in the opportunity to be involved in our Parish life by serving on our Saint Bridget Pastoral Council starting with the June 2015 term. Pastoral Council is made up of 12 members with rotating terms. Our Parish Council serves primarily in a supportive role to our Pastor, Monsignor Carr. We strive to promote the spiritual and temporal well being of our Parish members, to promote communication and coordination among various Parish groups and to assist in creating and furthering the goals and priorities of our vibrant parish. This is such a wonderful op-portunity to be involved actively in your Parish Family. If you or someone you know would be interested in being a council member or if you have any questions about what this involved, I would be happy to talk with you! Each of you has unique gifts to share. Thank you for giving this opportunity prayerful consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. Ann Vandersyde, [email protected]; Cell #804.683.3809

Cherishing Life at All Stages: End-of Life Issues for All Ages - An In-depth Panel Discussion

Saint Bridget Catholic Church – April 28th – 6:00 p.m.

Please join us for an in-depth discussion of the moral and ethical challenges that can arise at the end of life, not only for ourselves, but when caring for loved ones.

What must be done for the terminally ill, including medica-tion, hydration, and nutrition? Who may make these deci-sions on behalf of our loved ones at the end of life? What legal issues may arise and how should one prepare?

The discussion will be led by a panel that will offer their perspective on this important topic, and will allow time for questions from the audience.

Monsignor William H. Carr, Pastor of St. Bridget Catholic Church

Burke Balch, Lawyer and Director of the Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics of the National Right to Life Committee

Sister Marie Kerns, Sister of Mercy and Director of Mission and Outreach at Bon Secours Health System.

The discussion will take place in the Parish Commons from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. Please plan to stay for light refreshments hosted by the Respect Life Committee.

Morning of Recollection for Women: There will be a Morning of Recollection for Women on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Comboni Missionary Sisters, located at 1307 Lakeside Ave-nue. Meditations will be given by a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei. Mass will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m., and there will be an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconcili-ation. A Message from the Liturgy Committee:

Thank you for attending the Triduum liturgies at St. Bridget Church. Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback about the liturgies by taking this brief survey at bitly.com/Triduum. We will use this information to improve the liturgies in future. Even if you were unable to attend the Triduum Services, please consider opening the survey as we would like some feedback from you as well in question 7. Many thanks, and have a joyous Easter Season!

Dear Parishioners,

Thank you to everyone who participated in our week-long Lenten Retreat. Many people took time out of their schedules to reflect and draw closer to Christ as part of their Lenten journey and Christ was there!

I would also like to thank Monsignor Clay, the Lenten Retreat committee and all the volunteers who helped make the retreat a meaningful success!

Easter blessings - Monsignor Carr

CARITAS 2015 Thank You! A heartfelt “thank you” to all parishioners who helped make the recent CARITAS event such a great success. Forty homeless men were given shelter and meals during a week of terribly cold winter weather. Over 200 parishion-ers worked and helped out in many ways to make these needy men comfortable. They were very appreciative. Vol-unteers came in on the snow day and kept the men compa-ny not to mention all the volunteers who came in every night to drive to the Y and the laundromat, spend the night, serve meals, cut hair, play cards (to name only a few of the tasks) - so much outreach that showed these men the spirit of Christ. Thank you is not enough but know how grateful the parish is for your efforts!

Commonwealth Catholic Charities Food Pantry

Drive: In February St. Bridget donated 132 bags of food

which helped to feed 442 needy friends and neigh-

bors. Our next food drive will be the weekend of

April 12th when volunteers and the Knights of Colum-

bus will be handing out empty grocery bags after all

Masses. Please do not pass them by, take an empty gro-

cery bag home and return it the next weekend. Your con-

tinued support of this ministry has been so very much

appreciated. Your monthly donations have helped to

make it possible for CCC to keep the pantry open in spite

of the increase in people needing our assistance.

Thank you!

Human Concerns Announcements

HELP Program in Need of Phone Counselors!

Commonwealth Catholic Charities’ HELP Program is seeking volunteer phone counselors in its Richmond Office. Volunteers assist low income community members in a financial crisis to connect with emergency financial assistance resources offered by CCC and other community based provid-ers. Phone counselors cover the HELP Emergency Assistance Line from 9am – 12:00pm and from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm daily. Volunteers are needed to cover one or more shifts, based on availability. CCC’s HELP program is one of the largest and oldest emergency financial assistance programs in the Richmond region and is a partnership between CCC and area parishes. Please contact Sid Al-varado at [email protected] or 804-545-5945 if you are interested in volunteering.

Hungering for Celebration! We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we celebrate! Our Len-ten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus reigns forever. Let us rejoice in our risen Lord—and in the lives we’ve changed this Lent in Tanzania, Nicaragua, Niger, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and all over the world! Don’t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl in the basket in the Commons after Masses.

Finding Grace in Race: [G]race A public lecture series marking the 150th anniversary of the burning of Richmond. This is the third and last lecture in the series. Come and join the other St. Bridget folks attending. “The Renewal” Monday, April 27, 7:30 pm. This lecture will explore how the United States has grappled with segregation in the legal system since the fall and burning of Richmond. About the lecturer: Christy Coleman is Co-CEO of the American Civil War Museum. Each 45 minute lecture will be followed by facilitated conversation and group processing time among the audience. Lecture is FREE. To register contact DeBorah Cannady at [email protected] or by phone at 804-783-7903.

Haiti Collection. Please remember the good work of our Haiti ministry in the second collection next weekend.

Fair Trade Coffee and Tea Sales. The weekend of April 25/26 we will be offering an assort-ment of coffee, tea, hot cocoa and chocolate bars. The St. Bridget coffee we are selling is in a beauti-ful new bag with a fresh seal that will keep that fresh roast taste longer and is still one full pound. Stop by in the commons after Mass to see the wide assortment being offered. Your purchase helps to give an education to children in Carissade, Haiti who would not otherwise have one while helping the farmers in third world countries make a better living. You pay a little more but the coffee, tea and chocolate are fantastic. It is as if you can taste the good you are helping to provide.

Help Wanted – We have gotten a number of new volunteers to help sell fair trade products after Mass but we are in need of help once a month after the 5:30 on Saturday. This takes about 15 minutes of your time after mass. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Paul Amrhein at 525-7902 or [email protected], thank you.

BeFriender Ministers Needed —This ministry is a blessing to all those involved. Our Be-Friender Ministers are all busy and we need both men and women to help out with the ministry. We are in the process of interviewing candidates and setting the training schedule for this Spring. Be-Friender Ministry is a national, ecumenical organization that provides training for a listening min-istry of lay pastoral care always in strictest confidence. BeFrienders provide pastoral care for people in transitional situations. They are trained lay volunteers who extend the pastoral care of a faith community. The training for this ministry will help you become a better spouse, parent and friend. If you are interested in attending the training or learning more by speaking with one of our current ministers contact Paul Amrhein [email protected] or 525-7902.

Do you Believe in Miracles? We have seen them happen just from talking to a BeFriender min-ister – someone who is not a friend or relative. Could You Benefit from Someone to Talk to? Per-haps things just are not the same with you and your spouse, or your job is more stressful than in the past or your health just is not right. It could be you just don’t want to bother your friends and family hashing over the same issues. Perhaps you are having a happy transition such as having a baby and would like someone to share your joy. A BeFriender Minister is just a call away and completely confidential. A BeFriender will not tell you what you have heard from everyone else but they can put you in touch with the Holy Spirit working in your life. They are trained to listen and help you figure your own way forward. We have ministers ready to bring the care and concern of our faith community to you. Call Paul Amrhein at 525-7902 or [email protected]
