Why not make your Mom some of this delicious cobbler for Mother’s Day

(May 13th

)? Can opener, knife, teaspoon, fork, measuring cup, bowl and cake

pan are all the utensils you’ll need. Try to do all the cooking and give Mom

the day off!

EASY PEACHY COBBLER

One 29-ounce can peace slices

1 box yellow cake mix

1 stick butter

Cinnamon to taste (1-2 teaspoons)

Sugar to taste (1/2 cup)

Strain peaches, saving the juice. Spread peaches in a 9x13 inch pan, then

place pats of butter between peach slices. Then pour peach juice over top of

cake mix and use a fork to even out the lumps. Mix some sugar and cinnamon

together with a fork, then sprinkle over juice. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40

minutes. Very good!

RED POTS FOR PENTECOST In 2009, 2010, and 2011, several red ceramic flower pots

were distributed, and filled with red geraniums (representing

the fire of the Holy Spirit) by members of the congregation for

Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost is May 27th

this year. We have a

few new red ceramic flower pots waiting to be filled. If you'd

like to fill one, please contact Nancy Schnepp. If you take a pot

to fill, you'll get to keep it after Pentecost Sunday! And, if you still

have your red pot from a previous year, please fill it and bring on May 27th

to

help decorate the sanctuary! Thank you!

MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET: WEAR YOUR APRON!! The annual Mother Daughter Banquet will be held on Wed May 16

th at

6pm, in the church basement. The theme is "Apron Stories". Each one in

attendance is asked to bring or wear an apron if you have one of your own or

one of your Mother and Grandmother or Aunt or any family members had. We

will have an apron fashion show and you will have the opportunity to tell any

stories you might have about your apron. Aprons will be judged on

most colorful, most unusual, etc for door prizes.

The menu will be a baked pasta buffet (yes Mary

we will have one with no tomatoes) salad, bread

and dessert. The evening is absolutely free. Please

come even if you have no daughter or no Mother

to come with. YOU ARE A DAUGHTER. This

means ALL the ladies of the church are

encouraged to attend.

Entertainment will be the Tippi Chorus. This

chorus was established in 1934 by Dr. Albert Stewart, whose goal was to bring

rural women of farm families together to make music. The program grew to

include all women

of Indiana. Each

county chorus has

its own director and

title. (TIPPI for

Tippecanoe.)

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Sunday School lessons are being prepared by Pam Church for the last few

Sundays till Summer break. The “Early Church” will be investigated. Crafts

or computer lab or other activities will be included. Sunday School meets at

10:15am. We will take a Summer break after May and resume in September.

Sunday School attendees will be recognized and honored on May 21st.

Those who will be attending church camp this year may also be recognized.

Third grade Bibles will also be presented.

HAM & BEAN SUPPER MAY 5 Come one, come all, o the Ham & Bean Supper on Saturday, May 5, 5-

7pm. The supper is open to the public, and is a fundraiser to help pay for the

basement remodel/new carpet.

Your palate will be delighted with the menu: ham & beans, fried potatoes,

cornbread & butter, drinks (coffee/ice tea/lemonade/water), with ketchup &

onions for your beans. There will also be dessert!

AN EVENING WITH… BONNIE CRAWFORD On Monday, May 7, 6:30 pm, Ladies Missionary Society is sponsoring an

evening with Bonnie Crawford. Bonnie is a guidance counselor at William

Henry Harrison High School. She will present the program, followed by a time

for questions and answers. The program is open to the public, and

refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Ruth

FIVE QUESTIONS This month we meet the Kent family. Let’s get to know them a little better…

CHARLES "CHUCK" 1. What was your favorite game to play when you were a child?

>> Football, Dodgeball...my brothers and I played outside all the time.

2. How did you and Alicia meet?

>> We met at one of my friend's wedding. He was marrying her cousin, so we

were both in the bridal party.

3. Have you ever gotten lost and did you ask for directions?

>> No and No (Alicia says: Typical man)

4. What's your favorite way to spend a weekend?

>> Sitting back watching football with a cold beer.

5. What are your three favorite smells?

>> 1.Bacon. 2. Freshly cut grass because it reminds me of warm weather and

summer. 3. Spring rain.

ALICIA 1. What was your favorite childhood book?

>> "When Grover Moves to Sesame Street" -- It was a book on tape. I can

still do the voices in the book to this day. My mom gave me this book at my

baby shower for Eliza. We laughed hysterically as I recounted the story in all

it's original "charm."

2. What's a favorite memory from your wedding day?

>> My favorite memory from our wedding day was just after getting

pronounced husband and wife. I was so excited as we turned around to see all

our friends and family smiling. After the announcement I threw my arm up and

said, "Yay!" and skipped off the stairs. I'm sure most everyone noticed because

I heard lots of laughs.

3. What part of church services do you enjoy the most?

>> I enjoy the doxology we sing after tithes and offerings. "Praise God from

whom all blessings flow..."

4. You will celebrate your second Mother's Day this year---how will you

spend your day?

>> I don't have any plans, yet. Last year Chuck took Eliza and I to the Olive

Garden.I'm sure we'll do something as a family again. :)

5. What is your favorite time of day?

>> To answer this question literally, I like 9 p.m. Eliza has been in bed for an

hour, I have finished the last bit of housework, and I can just relax and have

"Me" time.

ELIZA (with help from her parents)

1. What do your parents call you?

>> "Lizzy" "Lizzy Bomb" (If you've ever

changed her diaper you'd call her that too!)

and "Bomb-O-la"

2. What is your favorite story book?

>> "God Bless" It's a book of all sorts of

scenes. About a month ago, Chuck and I

would hide this book because we had to

read it 20 times daily. We do baby sign

language with Eliza so she loves pointing out the pictures and signing the

animals, people, and things.

3. Are you a night owl or a morning dove?

>> Eliza is a GREAT Sleeper (I don't have anyone to compare her with, but it

seems good to me). 13 hours a night and a 3 hour nap each day. But...if you

don't lay her down, she'll just keep on playing and playing and playing.

4. What's your favorite food?

>> I've yet to find a food she doesn't like. She always gets excited for hot dogs,

grapes, oranges and bananas. It took Daddy a few days to realize that her sign

for banana and orange were the same. She calls them both, "B"

5. Where did you get your beautiful smile?

>> The ongoing joke in our family is that she gets her "Serious" face from

Daddy and her smile from Mommy.

BAPTISMS METRO BAPTISM Aden Blu Metro was baptized on Sunday, April 8, 2012 during first

service. Pastor Dwight led the service with the family and congregation

participating. The pastor said “A baptism is a representation of what happens

in a person's life. A

promise of what's yet

to come.”

VBS 2012 We're having a Beach Blast! June 25-29.

Anyone from 3yrs to 6th grade are invited to attend

the fun. Those over 6th grade may apply to help or

for the Teen Team Lifeguards. There will be

a recognition celebration on July 1 during Worship

at BCUMC .

New this year is the Teen Team Lifeguards who will meet on Saturday,

May 12 at BCUMC. Teens will meet before VBS and help with decorations,

publicity, and music. During VBS they will be assisting with crowd control,

activities, and enthusiasm! :-) contact one of the directors & come on May

12. Sweets, juice, & milk will be provided for wake-up nourishment.

Director Jamie Davidson and assistant Melissa Fleming are

accepting volunteers who would like to assist with the Beach Blast. Spots are

still available for nursery, publicity, decorations, and miscellaneous tasks. We

also need to borrow a surf board or boogie board. Do you have one to loan out

for VBS? If you would like to participate, get your name and phone number to

Jamie (765-237-4375) or Melissa (589-8933). "Crazy Daze (days)" and

activities are not finalized but be prepared for tropical games and foods. Can

you roll a coconut? Have your sunglasses and Hawaiian shirts ready! Will

you need a beach towel? Do palm trees grow at BCUMC? Don't forget a light

colored t-shirt for crafts; Brooke & Ashley are really excited about this!

OBIT GERALD D. BROUWER, 67 Gerald “Gerry” D. Brouwer, 67, of Lafayette, Indiana,

died at Indiana University Arnett Hospital at 3:45 p.m.

Sunday, April 15, 2011, where he had been a patient since

Friday after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Gerald was born in Lafayette on Tuesday, February 27,

1945, the son of the late Charles Lewis and Ruth F.

Klaverenga Brouwer and was a 1964 graduate of Lafayette

Jefferson High School. He married Peggy Ann Stephenson, in Lafayette, at St.

Boniface Catholic Church on Saturday, January 25, 1969, and she survives.

Gerald worked at Rea Magnet Wire 41 years, retiring in 2011. He served

in the US Army from 1965 until 1967 during the Viet Nam War, and was a

member of American Legion Post 11.

Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Karen J. Kauffman, of Lafayette; a

son, Michael A. Brouwer (wife Suzannah), of Paris, IL.; 6 brothers, Charles

Brouwer (wife Betty); James Brouwer (wife Pat); Thomas Brouwer (wife

Sandy); George Brouwer (wife Pat), all of Lafayette; Kenneth Brouwer (wife

Rena), of Delphi, IN.; Henry Brouwer (wife Suzann) of Buck Creek, IN.; a

sister Ruth Anne Hawk( husband Bill), of Greenville, TN.; and a sister-in-law

Carolyn Brouwer, of Lafayette. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Stephanie,

Ashley and Johnathan Kauffman; Madelyn and Matthew Brouwer; and 2

great-grandchildren, Zoey Akins and Gerrard Fields.

Services were at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. at 11:00

a.m. Thursday. Rev. Joeseph Park officiated. Entombment in Tippecanoe

Memory Gardens Mausoleum with American Legion Post 11 military rites. If

friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Our sincerest and deepest sympathies to Gerry’s brother Hank, his wife,

family and friends. His name will grace the in-memory-of list with the socks

delivered to the Lebanon Children’s Home in December from BCUMC. A

donation to the Gideons was made in his name from BCUMC. Funeral dinner

food was provided by members of Buck Creek UMC.

DR. CONNIE DEE FRAZER CURTIS, 65 (corrected) Dr. Connie Dee Frazer Curtis, 65, died on Wednesday,

February 29, 2012, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Services were

held at Bethune-Cookman University Chapel on Monday,

March 5, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Interment at Sunset Park

Cemetery.

She was the Godmother of Ambar Saleh and O'Neil Brown

and his wife Beata. Loving grandmother to Andres, Amal,

Omar, Yousef Saleh; and a dear friend to David Cipolloni.

Connie is survived by her sisters: Diane White of Battle Ground, Indiana;

Aldine Stephens (Carl) in Arvada, Colorado; Violet Turner (Thomas) of

Lafayette, Indiana; Kathy Douglas (Mike) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 1

brother Louis Frazer of Denver, Colorado, and one step-brother Lawrence

Oswalt of Mulberry,

Indiana. He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Dallas White. Also

her parents Daniel Frazer and Esther Smith, and one brother Sgt. John D.

Frazer. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces

and nephews.

Dr. Curtis was the Department Head and Associate Professor of Modern

Languages at Bethune-Cookman University for 28 years. She served the South

Daytona community by caring for homeless and abused animals and looked

after underprivileged people in her community.

Our sincerest and deepest sympathies to Connie's sister Diane White, her

family and friends. The giving spirit just exudes from this family. Connie's

name will grace the in-memory-of list delivered with the socks collected at

BCUMC this year for the residents of the Lebanon Children's Home this

December. A donation was made to the Gideons from BCUMC in Connie’s

COUNTY COURTHOUSE CLIPS Indiana has some of the most beautiful courthouses in Indiana---92 of them.

Did you know that the Carroll County Courthouse is the third building in

Delphi, Indiana to hold that title? The current building was completed in

1916, at 101 W. Main Street. Carroll County itself was named for Charles

Carroll, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. Look up

inside the structure

and a stained glass

dome fills your

view. Look down

and you are

standing on a

mosaic tile floor.

Beautiful marble

steps complete the

beauty that is the

Carroll County

Courthouse. The

building was

designed by Elmer

Dunlap, and built

by A.E. Kemmer. It has the honor of being listed on the National Registry of

Historic Places. Outside you will spot a Civil War monument which was

erected in 1882. The courthouse is located about 10 miles northeast of Buck

Creek, about two miles closer than the Tippecanoe County Courthouse!

CEMENT WALLS REPLACED The cement walls at the backdoor have been removed and replaced with

retention walls. Three wooden planters have also been placed to mask the

sewer vents. Pictures below.

THE TABLE The familiar “dessert table” that’s been part of the church basement for

many, many years has been placed up for bid by the Trustees. If you are

interested in the table, please send your bid to Trustees chair Retta Whiteaker:

rettajean@embarqmail.com. The bids will be closed on May 19th

, 11:59pm,

with the winner announced shortly thereafter. The table comes with two

leaves and all the table pads.
