ECOCER-MW project aims to demonstrate the technically feasible alternative to use the rapid
and clean microwave technique to recycle industrial wastes (from Romania and taly! from
ener"y industry (coal ashes! and metallur"y (steelma#in" sla"! some of which havin" yet no use
in Europe$ even worldwide% &he proposed approach will demonstrates innovative technolo"ies to
recycle wastes into hi"h added value products which create the possibility for a widespread use
within the E'$ facin" the same environmental problem &he project epects to achieve ceramic
composites (includin" bul# nucleated "lass ceramics! for architectural or insulator applications%
)erivative objectives are*
+! development of unconventional techniques (MW! to manufacture micro and,or nano
structured ceramics to be used at industrial level* improvement of microwave technolo"y
adapted to ceramic micro and nano-composites processin" for further industrial use conception
and desi"n of a microwave furnace dedicated to ceramic composites sinterin"$
.! simulatin" modellin" the microwave heatin" process for the ceramic and ceramic composites
to be manufactured by usin" industrial waste in order to etend at laboratory level the
manufacturin" of advanced ceramic composites%

and European level$ in terms of the application of the results in practice by a sustained campai"n

establish a sustainable waste mana"ement%

researchers! and international cooperation are addressed by this proposal%
&his wor# requires a European approach to effectively address the environmental,technolo"ical
problems aimed in the proposal% &he si6e of the problems and etended compleity of the
involved technolo"ies$ require a European level cooperation% &hese factors limit the re"ional or
national approach in two ways*
i% t is difficult to find in one European re"ion the whole set of capabilities needed to develop
new processes for turnin" a waste into a product%
ii% &he pro"ress of real industrially applied solutions need a sufficiently lar"e mar#et that
justify the investment associated with R&)%
&herefore$ addressin" this project from a European point of view with a wide set of resources
(human and technolo"ical! will lead to an optimised solution% 9dditionally$ the eploitation of
the project results will stron"ly depend on the mar#et that can be reached% &his commercial
application base can only be "enerated and sustained at this early sta"e of development by the
ran"e of mar#ets and industrial concerns available throu"hout Europe%
Re"ardin" the trans-national cooperation$ the consortium is composed by partners comin" from .
E' countries% &he resources provided by each industrial partner are necessary to the completion
of the project$ and therefore it is planned a clear transnational cooperation between these
industrial and R&) partners% ?urthermore$ the consortium is loo#in" to establish cross-border
lin#s$ which are important to both social and economic cohesion of the E' as well as to the
competitiveness of the European industry%

superconductin" materials for more than +3 years with MW techniques% Moreover$ it has alsosuccessfully modelled the heatin" effect due to radiation absorption at a microscopic level$ even
for very anisotropic materials%

one of the current international trends in environmental protection and nanomaterials science%
