Health and safety might only be the second most important

aspect of food products for consumers, after flavor, but food

German engineering association, estimates washdown time

in the food industry to be between 20 and 30 percent of the

overall production time.

Tests were conducted at HELUKABEL’s testing facility in

accordance with Ecolab specifications. The test followed

a prescribed cleaning plan from pre-washing to foaming

to rinsing. The material resistance test it conducted was

configured based on the material used in the cable’s

outer jacket

The test was performed with various cleaning and

disinfecting agents for the food and beverage industry:

· P3-topax 200 - Alkaline, chlorine-free foam cleaner

· P3-topax 500 - Acid foam cleaner

· P3-topax 990 - Neutral, non-oxidizing disinfecting

agent

· P3-topax 66 - Alkaline cleaner and disinfectant with

active chlorine

· P3-topactive Okto - Acidic foam disinfectant with a

peroxyacid basis

· Distilled water as a zero value

A cable with a PVC outer jacket was submerged in each

test medium for 28 days at constant room temperature.

A tensile elongation test was then conducted to detect

any swelling, cracks, color changes, or changes to the

surface characteristics or dimensions.

The tested PVC jacket material successfully withstood

the procedure.

New additions to the hygienic accessories range are the

HELUTOP® HT-Clean stainless steel cable glands, the Anaconda

Sealtite® FG-Clean protective conduit, and LT-FG-Clean stainless

steel hose fittings. All three have smooth surfaces that prevent

dangerous organisms from taking hold and enable easy, fast and

inexpensive cleaning. Sterilization can also be done using high-

pressure cleaning equipment. Moreover, they are resistant to

chemical cleaning agents, prevent the formation of contaminates,

and do not allow foreign bodies to penetrate the casing.
