• “Educational Specifications” (Ed Specs) guide the design of new educational spaces and include requirements for minimum space sizes.

• FCS’ comprehensive Ed Specs meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Georgia Department of Education. 

• Per FCS Board Policy FD, Ed Specs must be reviewed periodically, but not less than every five years. Our last update was in 2015.

• Reviewed existing school inventory to assess existing spaces and specialty areas, including CTAE

• Met with FCS Subject Matter Experts to understand strengths and weaknesses of various program spaces

• Public review and comment period – September 9‐23

• Slated for Board review and vote in November

• Minor space and program edits to align Ed Specs with what FCS builds

• Refined to reflect current academic initiatives which allows for more academic flexibility and efficiency.  CTAE is an example.

• Overall building sizes and significant spaces adjusted to be consistent with our newest prototypes

• Reformatted document to allow ease of navigation

• 2nd classroom in Music area designated as Flex Classroom to allow multi‐functional use

• STEM Lab combined with Multipurpose Projects Lab to eliminate duplication of purpose

• Reading Room area of Media Center increased to allow flexibility and reflect what we build

• Special Ed conference space reflected in Administrative & Guidance square footage

• Common Gathering space in corridors eliminated

• 2nd Counselor added; additional conference & office space documented
