Concept of Strategy
• The direction and scope of an organization over the long term.
• It should match the resources of the organization to its changing environment (markets, customers and other stakeholders).
• Strategy determines the direction where the organization is going

• It is a long term plan
• It is the pattern of the organizations’s behavior over time (descriptive meaning of strategy)
• It is a perspective : a fundamental way of doing things (mission)
• A ploy: a specific manoeuvre to outwit a competitor

What is Strategic Management?
• Strategic Management is a process for analyzing a company's competitive situation, developing the company's strategic goals, and devising a plan of action and allocation of resources that will help a company achieve its goals.
• Strategic human resource managementis the pattern of planned human resource deployments and activities intended to enable an organization to achieve its goals.

Components of the Strategic Management Process
• Strategy Formulation: Strategic planning groups decideon a strategic direction by defining the company's missionand goals, its external opportunities and threats, and itsinternal strengths and weaknesses.
• Strategy Implementation: The organization followsthrough on the strategy that has been chosen. Thisincludes structuring the organization, allocatingresources, ensuring that the firm has skilled employees inplace, and developing reward systems that alignemployee behavior with the strategic goals.
