Term Reflection
In this term which is term 3, my class and I have been having a
wonderful time. Miss McMurtrie and Mr Kempermen have been
talking to us about the year 6 exhibition. This is kinder scary
because we are the first BGS boys who are going to do this
exhibition.
The things we have been doing are going on excursions making
examples of these exhibitions. We went to the city for our
excursion and we went by train to the city and it took ages. We
went to and exhibition where people were trying to sell there
products there and we saw all kinds of stands. We saw giant
ones, small ones, colourful ones and ones that gave us free stuff.
When we came back from the excursion we talked about the
things that made a good stand. The things that made a good
stand were things like colour, big, eye catching and free stuff.
The winning stand was the BOSE one. It ticked all the boxes, it
was bright and stood out all of them because of it’s colour, it
gave away free things like showing us a 15 minute movie and gave
us free chocolates and t-shirt that one fits all. They displayed
giant TV’s and had a competition where if you were wearing the
free BOSE t-shirt that would give a few people free head phones
that cost a lot, but I wasn’t one of those people.
After the excursion a few weeks later, it was house cross country
and the 5’s and 6’s had to run 2.6 or 2.4 km, the year 7’s and 8’s
had to run 3 point something and I think the year 9’s had to run
4km. Some of the year 9’s didn’t finish but that was okay because
it was huge and long. I came 25 out of 32 and that was better
then last year. In the middle I tripped over and then I walked it.
After the race I got an ice pack on my ankle and bought an icy
twist which is an icy pole.
2 or 3 weeks later we started to do a science speech which was
on a Great Barrier Reef animal and it was kinder like a practice
for the house public speaking competition, my house won last year
which is Forsyth if you didn’t know. Then we got told that we only
had 1 week to prepare for our house speech when last year we
Term 3 Goals
UOI
In UOI this term we have been doing, where we are in place in time and how we
express ourselves. We have been doing power points on our expressions. The faces I
used were surprised, sad, bored, thinker and happy. We also did a proposal to present
a new and renewable recourse to the prime minister.
I did my renewable recourse on hydro electric dam. I was planning to build the hydro
electric dam in Phillipe Island and it was going to go and power the whole of Phillipe
Island. We had t find out what recourses we need and how many of the recourses we
need. We had to write a letter to the prime minister about what we wanted to do. My
hydro electric dam was going to cost around 2 billion dollars.
We then started to find out about exhibitions because we were going to be the first
boys from BGS to do one. We went to an exhibition in the city and we got there by
train. We saw all sorts of stands and we went past and went to see Trent’s dads stand
which was Bourne Bathrooms. We also saw Josh and Jenna from the show the Block.
We got to stay and see them talk about how it was on the show.
English
This term in English we have been learning about suffixes, prefixes,
antonyms, homonyms, synonyms and acronyms. A prefix is a word which
has a base word and then you add a smaller word on the back to make it
another word the word that you add on is called a suffix. A prefix is
kinder the same thing but instead of added it onto the back of the word
you add it onto the front of the word. An antonym are words that are
opposite like happy and sad or skinny and fat. A synonym is words that are
similar to other words like fantastic, amazing, wonderful and marvellous. A
homonym is two words that sound the same but are spelt differently like
bear and bare, two, to and too.
This term in English we have been doing a lot more proof reading then the
last 2 terms as well. We have been learning how to write a text response
because no one knew how to do it at the start; we have done about 3 or 4
text responses.
Math
In term 3 in maths we have been looking at triangles, angles, time,
coordinates, grid references, squared and cubes, positive and negative
and there are some people who go into extension to do harder work.
The triangle has 180 degreese in it and some examples of different
triangles are equilateral, isosceles, and equiangular, when we did
triangles we also related it to angles. A grid references is a point on
the like but a coordinate is in the square. A squared number is a number
time sing itself and you can also call a squared number, something to
the power of two.
Cubed are the same but you doing it with 3 numbers and you can call it
something to the power of three. In positive and negative we have been
doing adding and subtracting with positive and negative numbers. In
extensions we have been doing problem solving and the questions were
really hard, for the first few weeks we did it with Miss Mason.
Art
Charcoal
When we did pastel drawings I
absolutely loved it because we got to
get a 3D picture of a game and then
draw it on an A3 piece of paper and
then cover it in pastel. After we drew
the picture, you only had to do dabs of
pastel and then you rubbed it in by
stroking it. After finishing, we had to
put it in a paper frame and then we
hung it up in the school, my picture
was Sonic from Mario and Sonic and
the Olympic Games.
Pastels
In art this term we have been learning about
pastels, charcoal and glass window pictures.
When we used the charcoal it was the start of
the term and we had to cover an A3 piece of
paper with charcoal and then used bread and a
rubber to engrave the picture of an object that
was on the table in front of us. The objects
that were in front of me were two masks, a
fruit which Mr Bell told me and I forgot a lamp,
a post and a dangling thing. Out of all these
objects I chose to draw the mask but first I
drew the lamp but then covered it in charcoal
again because I changed to the mask.
Stain Glass Windows
We then started to find pictures
of stain glass window pictures and
then put them on an A3 piece of
paper and printed it out. We get to
choose 2 drawings, I chose silver
from sonic and shadow from sonic
and they are all Sonic’s brothers.
That is what I have done in art
and that is what I am doing in art.
Sport
In sport this term we have been doing football, rugby and lacrosse. In foot ball
we did the same things that we do every year. We did things like kicking the
ball around, handballing the ball to each other and at the last week of football
we had a few matches. At the end of football we did this thing for coke zero
and we had to try to kick a football and hit the coke zero can of the post, only
one person got it, it was Joel.
Lacrosse is a game with a long stick with a net on the end of it and then there
is a ball and two goals at each end. We trained for 2 weeks and then had a
huge game with the other class, we lost but it was still fun.
In rugby we had to train for 2 to 3 weeks and in the game, when you got five
tackles you had to kick it. When my team played rugby our tactic was just to
get the ball and then run forward and even when you are being tackled. We
were going to have a big game against the other class but we had to wait to
next week until we got to play because it was raining outside. Now we are doing
fitness testing.
French
In French this term we have been learning to say landmarks in French,
Tour de France, the Mono Lisa and making a sustainable home in Google
sketched up. We started off doing the Mono Lisa and we had to find
out who stole the Mono Lisa and how they stole it, the person who stole
it was the cleaner.
We then started to learn about the Tour De France. Naddel Evans won
the Tour de France and we learnt how long it was and where it started
and where it ended. We watched videos of it and saw who won the
shirts. Naddel Evans won it for Australia for the first time.
It was then the last 4 or 5 weeks of the term and we had to design a
sustainable house in Google sketch up. We have nearly finished and
after finishing the house we have to label our sustainable things in our
house, like my one has a water tank, a hybrid car, a bike, solar panels,
veggie garden and a green house. Miss Turner then said that we could
do some sentences in French to get extra marks. I have only done a
few. This is to be given in next weeks and it was a lot of fun.
Music
This term in music we have been learning about the planets and how to play the
keyboard. When we started off with the keyboard we first drew our own
keyboard on a piece of paper with some notes on it. We started to learn how to
find the note middle C. We then learnt how to play Marry had a little lamb,
Row along and then she gave us a new song to play at the end of the term.
We then started to listen to the planets by Gustave Holst. He made a music
piece for every planet that we know of. The planets that we have listened to
are Mars the bringer of war, Venus the bringer of peace, Jupiter the bringer
of jollity, Saturn the bringer of old age and Mercury the winged messenger. We
then watched Bernard for Mercury the winged messenger. We had to type a
story about Bernard in his accidents about what we think Mercury the winged
messenger. My Bernard was about him running in a marathon and then he kept
cheating to get to the front of the line because he wanted to win the prize
which was 20 years of unlimited food and then he got knocked out by a poll and
woke up in hospital full of cast around him.
Library
In library this term we have been doing a giant card box which we turned into a folk tale
story book. The folk tale that I went to choose was Pus in Boots.
I chose puss in boots because I liked the movie and I wanted to see what it originally
was. The original one was about how he and his brothers got things from his dad but he
only wanted boots. He then went to the king to ask that I will kill the shape shifting troll
for you. He then went to the troll and the troll turned into a lion but then Puss in boots
said that you can turn into a giant animal but what about a mouse. Puss in boots then ate
the troll that turned into a mouse and then he got a big amount of treasure for it.
Now in library we have been learning how to use sight ace. It is a program for our school
library and even St Margrets one. It tells us when it is in, how many copy’s of it is in
the library, a picture of the book, the author of the book and where it is located. I also
just bought the new Skulduggery book Death Bringer.
Science
In this term in science we have been learning and
studying about the Great Barrier Reef, coral reefs
and the wildlife in the Great Barrier Reef. We have
started by doing sheets and researching about
coral. We then watched a twenty-five minute movie
or show on the Great Barrier Reef. We had to then
answer some questions on the video. She then asked
us to go and do a project on a Great Barrier Reef
animal. My Great Barrier Reef animal that I did
was the sea turtle. The new facts that I learnt
were that there were different types of sea
turtles; I used to think that there was only one but
now I know that there are five. My speech went
around two minutes, my speech was long but I
thought I talked to fast and I moved around a bit
when I was speaking and for my power point I
forgot to switch slides so there was only one
picture for the whole speech. So the marks that I
got for my Great Barrier Reef speech were 8/10
for the presentation, like my power point and how I
spoke, I then got 20/20 for my information and
then finally got an 10/10 for my references, she
said you get automatically get full marks for your
presentation when you get four references.
PYP ATITUDES
The PYP attitude that I showed in this term was confidents and risk taking. I
showed confidents and risk taking in sport when we played rugby. When I got the
ball from my team mate I didn’t know what to do so then I just ran forward and
slamming into people and then I was nearly at the other side but then Jackson and
somebody else was in front of me and then I just slammed into them. When the
match was over Mr Kempermen said, that was the right thing to do in those
situations.
I showed confidents and risk taking when I wanted to go into a group with Nic, I
showed these PYP attitudes because I have never tried legomation before and I
didn’t know what would happen, but I went with anyway because I wanted to try it
out. These are the PYP attitudes that I showed this term and I hope I show more
next term.
