Over the next few weeks, our year level teachers will be coming offline for a day to

We Learn. Our activities will run throughout the
morning with the unveiling of plans for Harmony Place
at 11.35am. Parents and community members are
welcome to join us at 11.35am – this will occur in the
large undercover area outside the Canteen. All
students are invited to wear Orange as part of the
celebrations.
This Friday is National Ride to School Day. National
Ride2School Day is the perfect opportunity for our
school community to ditch the car and embrace a
healthier start to the day by riding and walking to
school.
Yesterday, our young writers were privileged to work
with a published author, Prue Mason. Prue provided
opportunities for our young writers to learn from a
professional, giving them new and exciting tips for
writing great stories. The students were thoroughly
engaged in the sessions and produced some amazing
pieces of writing. This author visit is part of our
extension program for students in Year 4,5,6 and I
would like to acknowledge Mrs Locke for the
organisation and presentation of this wonderful
opportunity for our students.

As well, teachers will be in contact with parents
regarding parent/teacher discussions and interviews
to take place prior to the end of this term. Please look
out for the letters/emails coming home this week.
Our Cross Country annual school event is on Friday.
The weather prediction is for rain. If the rain is light,
the event will still go ahead. (Will add to the fun!)
Please be prepared for this and pack an extra set of
clothing for your child. The running will be completed
by mid second session with our presentation of
winning House and age champions at 2.15 in the
afternoon. Children are expected to remain at school
for the whole day. All children are invited to wear a
coloured House shirt. A program of events is included
in this Newsletter.
It is very exciting to see our Stage 2 construction going
ahead. Classroom frames are beginning to appear and
the big steel portals for our Hall are up. Whilst there is
some noise we are tolerating, the benefits to our
school in the long run will be worth it.
Next Monday, 20 March, we are joining our Harmony
Day and Bullying. No Way! days together and
participating in activities that highlight what it means
to live in a multicultural society, free from bullying and
racism. We are very excited to be unveiling the plans
for ‘Harmony Place’ – our dedicated outdoor learning
space which will be built by our students and ready for
opening in August. This space has originated from the
students’ artwork and ideas and been designed to

This week we have been learning about setting realistic goals. To reach our goals, we must know what steps to take to reach them and we must know that they are realistic. 3A made a list of realistic and unrealistic goals to help show the difference. Unrealistic Goals I will learn all the One Direction songs in one week. I will learn how to swim like a mermaid in 2 minutes. I am going to win every running race without training. Realistic Goals I am going to learn a new song by the end of July My goal is to get a good mark for history by working hard I will learn to tell the time this year. I will learn how to do froggy kicks at swimming lessons. I will learn my times tables this year. Our examples of Good Goal Setting Realistic Goals I want to achieve a C in Maths. I want to make it to Districts in running. I want to improve at sports. I want to stop swinging on my chair. I want my confidence to improve when horse riding. Unrealistic Goals I want to save $1000 this year. I will learn to surf after one lesson. I will go from a D to an A in one term. I will be a confidant reader by tomorrow. I will speak French fluently by the end of the year.
From the Office
STUDENT ABSENCES – We have implemented the
new SMS text messaging service to notify parents
of their child/children being marked as absent for
the day. Simply reply to the text with your child’s
name, reason & duration of the absence. If for
some reason you are unable to reply by text or
phone call, please send a note to the office with
your child the next day.
Just a reminder – Please name all of your student’s
clothing and food containers. It becomes difficult to
return items if they are un-named.

If you require a new cardboard name tag for the
dash of your car, pop into the office. We can write
up a new one for you. These help us to ensure the
right students are ready to get in your car.

Uniform Demerit Slips
From this week on, the school will be starting to
issue uniform demerit slips to those children not in
full school uniform. The process around this is:
If a child is in incorrect uniform, their class teacher will pull them aside quietly and ask if they have a note from their parent. If they do, they will collect it and place on file.
If not, then the class teacher will inform the child that a reminder will be going home to parents identifying what part of the uniform that doesn’t meet our Student Dress Policy requirements.
The class teacher will tick the part of the uniform that isn’t correct, date it and name it and then keep in a plastic sleeve until the Friday.
On the Friday, the class teacher will send the sleeve over to the office with all the uniform demerit slips and a letter will be sent home to parents with the demerit slips attached. We will also keep the data on this.
If parents don’t respond to this initial phase, then a warning letter will be sent from the Principal to the parents, indicating that their child will receive a demerit point from their Spirit of Bellmere tally if failure to follow the Student Dress Policy continues.
