    PARISHM E S S E N G E R

    PRAYER IS FOR GLORIFYING GOD

Prayer is ordained for the purpose of glorifying the name of God. If we will make use

of prayer, not to wrest from God advantages for ourselves or our dear ones, or to escape

from tribulations and difficulties, but to call down upon ourselves and others those

things which glorify the name of God.then we shall see such answers to prayer as we

had never thought were possible (Hallesby 1931)

One woman used to close her prayer with the phrase And, God, we will

give you all the glory. It sounded almost phoney to people, but they knew the person who

was praying-she was real. It makes it sound as if God were greedily on the lookout as to who gets the

credit. How totally anthropomorphic we are in our conception of such a phrase as the glory of

God. How could we possibly understand even a slight bit of it, except as we catch a glimpse of it in

our Lord Jesus? And when he referred to the glory of God it had something to do with making people

    whole.

When this conviction takes root in us, we come to the Lord with a deep sense of need, asking for the

true Spirit of prayer. And as our Lord prays with us and through us, the glory of God will be borne

out in the lives of those for whom we pray. From icy mountains to tropical deserts, jungles of forests to

jungles of asphalt, continents apart-but no farther apart in reality than each of us is from the grace of

God. That is the geography of prayer. The planet shall be made whole to the glory of God in Christ

    Jesus.

May our good God bless you all,

    With prayerful regards,

    Mothy Achen
