EDITORIAL
Fellow Rotarian,
Rotary is doing good all around the world. Torching lives and meeting
the needs of the less privilege in our society. I am proud to be a Rotar-
ian. The Editorial board welcomes you to the month of September
recognized as “Basic Education and Literacy month”.
In this month of September, we are expected to reach out to those that
cannot read or write in our society. When we give people education
we are enriching and building a nation. Transformation does not just
happen by accident, people make it happen. “Be a Gift to the World”
today, encourage someone to read or write and support those that can-
not afford basic education.
Please ware your “ROTARY PIN” confidently and let people ask you
questions, so that you can further promote Rotary.
Our gift of “Sick Bay” to Community Secondary school, Wasimi is
still in the news and this project is serving its purpose.

Fellow Rotarian,
I welcome you to the second week in the month of September designated as Basic Education and Literacy
month. Let us continue with the challenge to ensure that all people have sustainable access to basic education
and literacy. The club Basic Education and Literacy Committee have invited a seasoned educationist as guest
speaker during the fellowship. The guest speaker will be talking on the topic: Basic education for sustainable
economy. I encourage all members to key into this and other activities listed by the Basic Education and Lit-
eracy Committee to celebrate the month.
Fellow Rotarians I wish to remind all members who still have outstanding 2014-15 dues and levies to regu-
larize their financial status with the club. Similar appeal also goes to those who are yet to pay their 2015-16
dues as well as the 2015 induction levy. Thank you as we continue to BE A GIFT TO THE WORLD.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE. The Continuations
Building self-confidence
Varda Shah’s family was asked by a friend to host an exchange stu-
dent two years ago in Mumbai. At first, family members were reluc-
tant.
“We were like, he’s a boy, he’s German, I don’t know how this is
going to work,” says Shah. “But we decided to take a chance, and I
never would have thought I could grow so close to someone in three
months. We still Skype and connect through social media constantly
and are always in touch.”
Shah decided she wanted her own exchange experience. She stayed
with three host families in New York, learning about camping, tailgat-
ing at sports events, and ice hockey. But the biggest change was to her
self-confidence.
“Before, I would never be able to make a conversation with a person I
didn’t know,” she says. “Now, I can proudly say it isn’t like that any-
more. I can go up to people. I have become more open, more mature.”
Accepting others
Juliana Kinnlof Vienna decided to follow in her older sister’s foot-
steps and take part in a Rotary Youth Exchange. She was hosted by
two families from the Rotary Club of Newtown, Pennsylvania, and
says she learned to be more accepting of other people and their differ-
ences.
“Meeting exchange students from all over the world, I have grown to
accept people for who they are and not to judge them because they are
different,” says Kinnl. “I’ve also grown more confident in my own
abilities and who I am.”
Growing bolder
Minerva Lopez Martinez of Marcia, Spain, spent her exchange in
Canada, hosted by the Rotary Club of Simcoe, Ontario. She said some
of her friends at home chose not to pursue an exchange because they
felt they would be losing a year of schoolwork. But she has a different
perspective on that.
“You have your whole life to go to school and learn. You only have
one opportunity for a youth exchange,” she says. “The reason I came
on the exchange is that I can be shy, and I didn’t want to be like that
anymore. Now, I am trying new things, talking to people I don’t
know. It has changed me a lot.”

WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A HAPPY LIFE?
The Continuations
The Source of Our Problems
Why it is so hard to maintain a continually happy and peace-ful mind if we have all this potential for peace and happiness within us? The answer is because we habitually succumb to deluded thoughts that consume our mind and destroy our inner peace.
There is no such thing as an intrinsically bad person. Delusions are distorted, deceptive ways of viewing our own self, others and the world around us. Anger, for example, cor-rupts our view of others so that they appear intrinsically bad. However, there is no such thing as an intrinsically bad per-son. Desirous attachment, on the other hand, sees its object of desire as intrinsically good, beneficial or absolutely neces-sary. If we have a strong desire for chocolate cake, then to us that chocolate cake appears intrinsically, irresistibly good. But after the third piece we begin to feel sick, and then it no longer seems so delicious — we may even find it repulsive! This clearly shows that, like all things, chocolate cake itself is neither delicious nor disgusting. Rather it is the deluded mind of attachment that projects all sorts of attractive qualities onto whatever we behold and then relates to them as if those qualities come from the object itself.
All delusions function in this way, within our mind as well as the minds of others. They project their own distorted version of reality onto the world, and we become convinced that this projection must be true. When delusions arise within us we have lost our grip on reality and cannot see things as they really are. Because our mind is always under the control of, at least, subtle forms of delusion all the time, we should not be sur-prised at our seemingly never ending stress, anxiety and con-fusion. It is as if we are continually chasing mirages, finding only disappointment when they don’t seem to fulfill our de-sires or pacify our frustrations.
