Bradford’s Briefingby Bradford Walters
rusting that we all made it safely into the new yearhave survived the holidays. Now we are lookingard to the spring and warmer weather that will come
in bits and pieces here in theMidwest. Not many of us haveflown outside this winter, so far. Idid make an attempt on NewYear’s Day, but with the 25 mphwinds and the gusty conditionsshifting as much as 120 degrees, Inever unloaded my aircraft from mytruck. Indoor flying with our smallerelectric aircraft has been keeping alot of us occupied during the coldwinter weeks. No wind and 72
controlled temperature has a way of spoiling us.n Lake Barrington Fieldhouse, Forest View, Joy of
e, and the Dome in Bensenville, I don’t think thatf us can say there is nowhere to fly indoors.

Paul Barsamian presented a fascinating program outlining how he got started in RC and the origins of hiscompany Eagles View Aerial L.L.C. which he started in 2005. His interest (passion) evolved into creating his ownCNC shop creating electric conversion kits and building his own design of helicopters for performing aerialphotography. This is all in addition to his full time job as an IT Security professional. Paul is also a field rep forModel Rectifier Corp (Hirobo Helicopters). He entertained us with stories of past jobs and went through an in-depth slide presentation which he titled “A Journey Into Madness”. He has experienced an entirely new lifethough in 2010 as he and his wife had twins in January. To quote Paul, “Nick and Lily will love RC.” His websiteis www.eaglesviewaerial.com.

THE ANSWER TO DECEMBER’S NAME THAT PLANE
The name of the plane is the Sopwith 1-1/2 Strutter. Bob Wisinski was the first to answer it correctly andwill receive a free raffle ticket at this month’s meeting. Charlie Benedict, Larry Bochenko, and DanDeitemeyer also answered correctly. This aircraft first flew in December of 1915. It was the first British aircraftto be built with a synchronized gun as standard equipment. It was also the RFC’s first true 2-seat fighter to attainseries production. See picture below. (Photo by Michael Fast, Airliners.net)
JANUARY’S NAME THAT PLANE This aircraft was one of a small number of British combat aircraft to be produced under license in the UnitedStates. Designed for the Royal Air Force as a high altitude medium bomber, it was the first jet to cross theAtlantic Ocean. Send all responses to Bradford Walters at [email protected].

Building Tip by Rich FrostUsing CA in the Winter.
As the holidays are over, now is the time to start a new project, either kit, scratch build, or ARF. Many of us havehad problems when using CA in the Winter as parts don’t seem to adhere to each other. Using "Kicker" to set offthe CA is messy as you end up spraying more than you need and most of them have an awful odor.
The problem is the low humidity in your home due to heating. Some times the humidity is as low as 20% or more.Even with a furnace humidifier levels of moisture are low. Wood pieces have dried out, thus causing gluing to bedifficult.
Here is an easy fix for this problem. Keep a small damp sponge on hand and wipe the wood pieces prior to gluing.
CA needs moisture to "kick off". That's why your fingers can easily be glued together if you are not careful.Moisture. Give it a try. It works for me.
