Who was Tokugawe Leyasu?

• Tokugawa leyasu was born in Okazaki Castle his parents were just 17 and 15 years old after many divorces and remarriages leyasu had 11 half brothers and sisters the family was split into 2 sides because one side wanted to be vassals and the others wanted to be on the side Oda which are 2 different clans.

• Leyasu spent most of his early years in danger of the 2 wars raging on. And this was the reason his grandfather was murdered.

Why this time period sometimes called the Tokugawa Bakufu/Shogunate ? Why is it sometimes called the Edo period? *Its called the Shoganate period sometimes because its the

period when the shoguns took control

*Its called the Tokugawa Bakufu period sometimes because he was a ruler in that period

* Its also called the Edo period because Tokugawa Bakufu ruled from Edo castle as a shogun

The Daimyos

• During the reign of the first shogun, many new rules were enforced. Perhaps the main one was that the Tokugawa did not allow any contact outside of the country.

• One of the main problems that emperors faced in ancient Japan was the threat of the Daimyos. The Daimyos were a group of people that would kick the emperor out of his throne, when they did not like the way he did things. Then they would make one of their own the emperor.

The First Shoguns

• So as we can see the Tokugawa were a very strong beginning to the Shoguns. They provided peace to Edo and the whole of Japan for 200 years, and made Edo one of the most populated cities on the planet.

• So as we can see the Tokugawa were a very string beginning to the Shoguns. They provided peace to Edo and the whole of Japan for 200 years, and made Edo one of the most populated cities on the planet.
