This lesson plan uses photographs that were taken during the civil war and constructs questions from those photos to develop a better understanding of the American Civil War.

Pictures are a great way to bring realism to a topic that would normally seem distant or irrelevant to the students. I could either use this lesson plan as is to explore concepts of the civil war, such as who was fighting, why were they fighting, and who suffered. Another option would be to change the photographs for ones that seemed more related to a specific battle or state that I would be covering.
