WHAT IS UNIVERSAL DESIGN?Universal Design is a way of creating lesson for the classroom

so that every student has the opportunity to learn and succeed.

Teachers use many methods to present and reinforce material.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN GUIDLINESThere are three UD guidelines given by the UDL Center:1. Provide multiple means of representation.2. Provide multiple means of action and expression.3. Provide multiple means of engagement.

PROVIDE MULTIPLE MEANS OF REPRESENTATION.1. Provide Options for perception

1.Making sure each student can choose an option to help the perceive the material.

2. Provide options for language and symbols.1.This takes into account ELL students who speak other languages.

3. Provide options for comprehension.1.Making sure every students has the chance to understand the

material.

PROVIDE MULTIPLE MEANS OF ACTION AND EXPRESSION1. Provide options for physical action.

1.Using manipulatives, physical activity or demonstrations.2. Provide options for expressive skills and fluency.

1. Using forms of writing, drawing or other creative means.3. Provide options for executive functions.

PROVIDE MULTIPLE MEANS OF ENGAGEMENT1. Provide options for recruiting interest.2. Provide options for sustaining effort and persistence.3. Provide options for Self-regulation.
