The digital education is one of the main trigger for the development of new growth and employment opportunities, according to the guidelines identified by the Italian Strategy for the Digital Agenda and Europe 2020 Program. Also the Italian Governement ongoing reform of the school system considers the digital issue as key.

The use of new technologies does not «complement» the education programs but is the basic alphabet of any learning process and a basic principle for the social inclusion and economic development.

Public opinion and top5% opinion makers require TIM’s committment (within CSR) to be primarily focused in the field of digital education (38%) (Ipsos, 2014). For TIM it is therefore key to promote - within schools - actions aimed at infrastructure strenghtening and forms of digital and innovative education.

TIM, a leader company in the Country system, favors the effective realisation of the Italian Governement plan aimed at the digital trasformation of schools («La Buona Scuola»), through the nation-wide program for digital education EducaTI, the testing of technological platforms for the digital education and the crowdfunding, as well as by favoring the development of innovative teaching models.

The EducaTI project, which is specifically dedicated to Schools and Education, is part of the TIM CSR activities #ilfuturoèditutti, a composite program of actions based on the creation of values shared with the communities where TIM operates. EducaTI is the univocal answer to the demand for digital education of students, teachers and families. It is a multi-annual program, sinergic, modulable and measurable within TIM Corporate Shared Value Model.

The MoU TIM – MIUR harmonises the various actions that TIM envisages in this field; all initiatives will be measured through KPI according to the TIM Corporate Shared Value Model.

A 3-years MIUR and CINI initiative, where TIM is the first Mecenate Partner.It aims at favoring the introduction of coding in the primary schools: the educational path is based on the material from Code.org and is made available through the platform programmailfuturo.it

A 1-year initiative realised by TIM in collaboration with the MIUR.A creative contest for students of high secondary schools of the country, to stimulate safer and more conscious ways to use internet and in particular the social networks

A 1-year initiative realised by the State Police with the support of MIUR, aimed at promoting a safe use of internet by young people.

A 3-years initiative launched by MIUR and CINI, aimed at favoring the introduction of coding in the primary schools: the educational path is based on the material from Code.org and is made available through the platform programmailfuturo.it

Launched in September 2014, the initiative is implemented by CINI (Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per Informatica). TIM is the first company adhering to the program and has the role of “Mecenate” partner.

Other partners are: Confindustria Digitale, Engineering, Microsoft, De Agostini, Intel, Facebook, Cisco, Fondazione IBM Italia

First year resultsOn May 26, 2015 the MIUR organised the award ceremony for the closing of the first year. Results: more than 300.000 students protagonist, around 2.100 participating schools and 16.500 classrooms involved.

Modalities

«Program the future» can be enjoyed by a classroom under the guidance of a teacher or a volunteer. The targeted classrooms are mainly from the primary schools.The initiative allows for two participation modalities : a basic path «1 hour of Code» where students start the computational thinking; and an advanced path.

Modalities

Students were required to prepare a lesson (max 5 min) addressed to the teacher, on one or more social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube), to shoot it with a smartphone or camera and then publish it on telecomitalia.com/youteach 

A 1-year initiative realised by TIM in collaboration with the MIUR, launched in December 2014 . Addressed to Italian high schools.A creative contest involving students of secondary high schools of the country, aimed at stimulating their creative ability for the realisation of an original video, that proposes safer and more conscious models to use internet and in particular the social networks

The Contest had the objectives to: highlight the advantages and benefits stemming from the use of social networks and the network; facilitate and contribute to the diffusion of positive opinions on the network, as the engine and faciltator of «good-practices»; create sensitiveness for a more conscious use of the network, involving students and teachers; stimulate and offer youngers new creative opportunities in the use of the network.

The initative was presented in 2015 in the context of Generazioni Connesse, the Italian Safer Internet Centre, coordinated by the MIUR to promote a safer and responsible use of Internet and new Media.

ResultsMore than 100 videos produced (initiale expectations: around 50) andevaluated by an external jury. Winners were awarded on May 27, 2015 with a tablet per student + the Scuolabook network for the school (winner: IIB of the Classic High School «A.Volta» of Ortona - CH). On June 5 the 4 classrooms which produced the 4 videos most voted on the web were also awarded with the Scuolabook Network platform.

A 1-year initiative realised by the State Police with the support of MIUR, already included within «Generazioni Connesse», the Italian Safer Internet Centre, aimed at promoting a safe and responsible use of internet and new media by younger people, co-financed by the EU Commission within the Safer Internet Program.

TIM is partner of the initiative together with other italian leader companies, telcos and OTT(FB, H3G, Vodafone, Wind, Google, etc). “A social life” targets students of Secondary Schools (low and high degree), teachers and parents, through an itinerant tour on the territory (around 50 stops), with the aim of raising awareness on the risks of a non responsible use of internet and at educating to legality on the web. 

TIM participation modalitiesTIM participated during the main stops of the itinerant tour through: - Presentations on security on the web- Communication activity through the Group corporate website

and social channels- realisation, in collaboration with State Police, of the booklet «DECALOGO PER I GIOVANI NAVIGATORI: LE REGOLE PER NAVIGARE SICURI»,10 rules for young web surfers to navigate safely- to be distributed during the tour stops - highlighting 10 virtuous behaviors to be followed by “social” youngers when navigating on the web.

ResultsThe first edition closed on June 5, 2015; 55 cities covered involving more than 400.000 students in the schools and 100.000 in squares, 8000 teachers and 15000 parents.

Tour Special Edition - Milan EXPO’ (TIM as the unique partner) with the following proposals to visitors: - May 9 and 10: presence of a truck furnitured

with a multimedia classroom within the Expo premises.

- May 9-31: corner dedicated to State Police within the TIM temporary store, supported by specialised staff, presenting the Police’ institutional activities on issues sensitive for yougers, such as cyberbullying and stalking.
