Bake Sale 2016 by Cor Amoris at tHe Spring

On the 30th and 31st of January, the Cor Amoris Club of St.Joseph’s Private School organised their annual bake sale at tHe Spring, Kuching. The main objective of the bake sale was to raise funds for the Society of Kuching’s Urban Poor (SKUP). This organization aids the poor of Kuching, particularly by providing food to those who cannot afford it. Club members had begun work on the project about a month in advance, planning for the project as well as baking cakes and brownies in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration. Also, a photo booth was set up by the decoration team to raise extra funds for SKUP.

Bake Sale 2016 by Cor Amoris at tHe Spring

Although the sale did not start off as a great hit, customers began rolling in during the afternoon of the first day and business began to bloom. Donations were also given generously by some passers-by. The bake sale was also heavily supported by the students and staff of St Joseph’s Private School. The club members stationed themselves outside the lounge and promoted their bake sale with handmade posters. Their efforts did not come to waste when they managed to roll in a staggering amount of RM8,674.00. This year’s bake sale has proven to be even more successful than last year’s. The club as a whole hopes to continue their unwavering effort to help the less fortunate during this new year. Ο

Recycling Day Aluminum Cans 16 February 2016

by Cor Amoris On the 1st and 16th of February, Cor Amoris Charity Club organised StJoseph’s Private School’s annual recycling project. The objective of the recycling project was to promote the 3Rs, namely Reuse, Reduce and Recycle to save the environment and to raise funds for the Society of Kuching’s Urban Poor (SKUP). This organisation aids the poor of Kuching, particularly by providing food to those who cannot afford it.

Club members of Cor Amoris designed and set up posters so that the students of the school were aware of the annual recycling project. The students were told to bring old newspapers from home on the 1st of February and aluminum cans on the 16th of the same month which was after the Chinese New Year holidays. Students who contributed to this project were given marks for Pendidikan Moral.

Recycling Day Aluminum Cans 16 February 2016

by Cor Amoris

On the day of the project, club members were stationed at the school foyer. They took down the names of students who brought the items. Other members were assigned to organise the huge stack of newspapers and bundle them together.

During the second day of the project, club members were tasked to remove the metal tabs from the aluminum cans. The recycling project proved to be a massive success as they were able to raise RM2424.35: RM1407.35 from old newspapers and RM1017 from aluminum cans. Cor Amoris hopes that their other projects will continue to be as successful as this one. Ο

Media Literacy Seminar It is important to learn media literacy so that we know what is right and what is wrong when one is on the social media. It taught me to be careful when surfing on the internet.

Vanya Tan Ying Ying (F1A)

I learnt to be more careful and alert when using the media and I will use it only for good.

Benjamin Hii (F1B)

I have learnt that not all information online are true. I also learnt how to make a presentation with my friends. I really enjoyed the seminar. Gladys Wong Ling Xuan (F1A)

The Media Literacy Seminar has taught me to respect others. It has also taught me that some movies and music have deeper meanings to it. We are taught how to find out about them.

Edwin Bundan (F1C)

A whole day seminar was organised by the school and facilitated by members of the Empowered Ministry of the cathedral parish of St Joseph’s on media literacy for students of Form One in the school chapel. Below are some of the comments of the students.

I have learnt about teamwork and obedience. I also learnt about the negative and positive aspects of the social media.

The real purpose of a phone is to communicate with someone who is far away, not with someone who lives nearby.

Julienne Chiu Ping (F1C)

We should not overuse technology because we can abuse it Lee Kian Hao (F1A)

This seminar taught me to respect others, pay more attention when people are talking and be careful when surfing the internet.

Ryan Tan Yuan How (F1C)

I have learnt to decide whether something online is suitable for me or not.

Peony Poh Shan Rou (F1B)

When a group of people are in the same room, they are usually busy online with their mobile phones while ignoring people who are actually in the room which makes them unfriendly and thoughtless.

Serafina Jimos (F1B)

It makes me more careful in not leaking private information online

Renee Kho Yin Shan (F1C)

I have learnt that the media has its pros and cons. We should use it wisely because this technology is invented to help people, not to harm people.
