AimEducation is a fundamental component of humanitarian response: it contributes to the physically and psychologically protection of children, their families and communities; it supports and promotes the continuation of child development and learning and helps prevent drop out; it presents an opportunity to improve the reach, quality and relevance of education, including building resilience.

A key part of being able to initiate, design and implement timely and quality EiE responses that can do this is that staff responsible possess the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes (competencies) - developing these is the aim of the EiE CAS.

Target AudienceBased on the premise that key agents of change and influence in EiE responses are mid-high level Education/EiE practioners who manage, influence, coordinate and/or represent field level operations (including via organizational and sector strategies and resources), it is this cohort that the EiE CAS is targeting in order to improve the coverage, quality and timeliness of EiE responses. In recognition that development programme education practitioners are frequently involved in managing otr supporting EiE responses in their contexts or country, or have to adapt their programmes to a new emergency context, the programme also actively invites applications from this group.

Following the successful roll out of the 6-month blended learning programme in East Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia (non-accredited), Save the Children partnered with the University of Geneva (UNIGE) to offer the programme as a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Education in Emergencies, the successful pilot of which took place in South Asia in 2017-18, with a CAS in the MEEE region currently underway. The CAS accreditation carries 14 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits which equates to a third of a Masters (the equivalent of a PG Cert in the UK). The programme’s blended learning approach includes the following components:

CostsAlthough the cost of delivering the EiE CAS generously subsidised by the IKEA Foundation, not all expenses are covered and some cost recovery through participant fees is necessary.

In recognition of the differences in different organi-sational resources and opportunities, these fees are tiered in the following way:

• Individuals:• UN organisations/Donors:• International NGOs:• Government:• National NGO/CSOs:

The course fee covers all costs during the nine-month course (including accommodation and meals during the two-week face-to-face residential) except for flights, visas and any other travel costs to the residential location.

Scholarships may be available to those applicants who meet UNIGE’s scholarship criteria (see UNIGE application page for details on this), or Save the Children’s Women in Humanitarian Assistance or national NGO scholarship criteria (email [email protected] for details about this)

Application Process

1.2.

Complete the online application form in full. If you think you are eligible for the possible scholarship opportunities described, contact either UNIGE or Save the Children as directed aboveSubmit the completed application by midnight 25 April 2019, directing any ad hoc queries directed to [email protected].

4. You will be contacted directly be email in duecourse about the status and success of your appli-cation and any next steps.

Places on the programme are limited and there-fore we will only select participants who are suited to the level of this training and who are based in priority locations. Successful applicants will need to explain how the training is relevant to their role and how they will be able to directly apply their learning in a pro-grammatic and/or humanitarian context.

NoteThe aim of this EiE course is to build a pool of practi-tioners with the competencies to be deployed domes-tically and regionally to lead or support quality edu-cation in emergencies responses. Please remember this when applying - we want to make sure that individuals graduating from the course are able to use their new skills and knowledge in a deployment situation to improve the timeliness and quality of EiE responses. Please also note that the course requires approximately 10 hours of study per week and two weeks for the residential face-to-face; this is substantial time commitment requiring careful consideration.

Application Deadline is 25 April 2019. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The programme is broken down into the following modules taught by a team of five experienced education in emergencies instructors:
