Our Story

Studio Pilates International® education courses provide the Ultimate Instructor Training, teaching you the modern science behind the traditional exercises. The foundations for the Studio Pilates International® instructor training courses began back in 2001 when Jade and Tanya Winter launched their first Pilates studio. This location quickly grew into one of Australia’s busiest Pilates studios, where Jade and Tanya personally instructed over 50,000 client consultations.

Tanya began instructing Pilates with a background in Physiotherapy and Jade with a background as an Olympic swimmer and Personal Trainer. Both had undertaken Pilates certification courses with a large number of accrediting bodies in both Australia and the United States, giving them a broad basis in multiple Pilates training styles.

Realising a Gap in the Market

After many years of teaching and training instructors to work in their studio, Jade and Tanya realised that there is more to becoming a great instructor than simply learning a few exercises. They found that new employees would often come in with a certain level of knowledge, but found it difficult to apply this knowledge, to effectively cue and modify the exercises for each person or have knowledge of the body and biomechanics, which ultimately decreased their ability to conduct great classes.

They also discovered that in a lot of cases, unfortunately the knowledge of incoming instructors wasn’t up to date with the latest science in terms of how to correctly activate muscles and cater for specific injuries. They would hire new instructors, and often spend a large amount of time retraining and up skilling them, sharing the lessons they had learned from many years of instructing. Through this training, these instructors grew from being good instructors to amazing, world-class instructors who were empowered with the practical knowledge to help their clients.

These new instructor recruits would often comment that they wished they had learned all of this in depth and practical knowledge in their original certification courses, and how easy the Studio Pilates® training was to understand and learn. From this experience, Jade and Tanya realised that there was a need in the Pilates instructor training industry to provide simple to learn, cutting edge courses that are able to be practically applied and are based on modern science.

Reinventing the Pilates Instructor Course

Jade and Tanya had experienced first hand in their own training that a lot of Pilates training programs were quite complicated and they wanted to challenge this status quo and provide something unique and different, whilst also delivering an even higher level of practical information to students. They harnessed their years of experience and set about creating a Pilates training program which was far more streamlined, greatly reducing the time needed for training.

Page 7: Education - The Web Consoledbm.thewebconsole.com/S3DB366/images/Studio... · The hardest thing about becoming an instructor is not learning the exercises, but learning how to teach

7

In the creation process, they sat down and wrote everything you could possibly want to know about every exercise, from the muscles used, the correct movements, common mistakes, injury and intensity modifications, how to teach it, verbal cues and detailed pictures, all with the intent to produce the most comprehensive Pilates Instructor Training Manuals and course available.

Video tutorials were filmed not only on every exercise, but also on postural assessments, injury management, and how to become a great instructor so that Studio Pilates® students could access this resource at any time by logging in to their exclusive Online Training Centre. This meant that students could learn in their own time and watch the videos as many times as they wanted to enhance their learning and cut down the need for students to take extended leave from work to complete their certification.

Studio Pilates® continues to review and improve all courses regularly so that they remain the most up to date and best possible courses in the industry. Studio Pilates® has already helped thousands of people launch their career in Pilates in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and the United Arab Emirates and are looking forward to helping many more!

The Ultimate Pilates Instructor TrainingEmbark on a new career as Pilates instructor by becoming certified with Studio Pilates International®. Our courses are designed with you in mind and our unique modular training system is flexible, comprehensive and dramatically speeds up the learning process, allowing you to get certified faster.

Most other courses require you to log hundreds of boring hours watching other people teach classes. Studio Pilates® however is different as we’ve done away with the logging of supervision hours and instead, we provide you with access to our world leading online training centre before your course commences. This allows you to study the course content in your own time before you experience the practical element of your training.

Once you have completed a course module, you are then qualified to teach what you know, allowing you to get work and earn money while you’re still training. You can choose to do just one module or our full Studio Certification Package, it’s your choice.

Your certification journey begins with our Pilates Matwork module that once completed, qualifies you to teach Pilates Matwork classes. You can then go on to do any of our other modules and start using what you know in your Pilates career.

10

Why Our Courses? Practical And Hands On Course WorkThe Studio Pilates® instructor courses are both practical and hands on. You will practice teaching the exercises extensively in both one on one and class settings. This practical training makes you a more confident instructor at the end of the day.

Physiotherapy Based LearningMany Pilates instructor courses do not go through the specific rehabilitation exercises. Our courses cover injury management and rehabilitation in detail. Our courses have been created by physiotherapists and are physio based, but with the traditional Pilates exercises. As a result, you learn the modern science behind the traditional exercises. We also teach you how to challenge your clients. We have courses specifically tailored for both the clinical setting and the fitness industry so you can be sure your clients receive great results.

Studio Pilates® Cueing FormulaThe hardest thing about becoming an instructor is not learning the exercises, but learning how to teach them. Our courses focus on ensuring you are confident to instruct each exercise – we focus on teaching you how to teach! We have developed our own cueing formula to help you to teach the exercises effectively and clearly.

Interactive Learning EnvironmentIn your course, you will be able to ask as many questions as you like. The format is interactive, rather than a lecture. The course combines formal learning but it is delivered in an informal manner. Our courses have a great group format and dynamic – both the instructor trainers and course participants are there to help each other and learn.

Our courses are not just about the exercises, they also deal with the body – posture, core stability, correct activation of core muscles based on the latest research, pregnancy, sample programs that you can use, injury management and programming.

Earn Continuing Education PointsMany of the Studio Pilates® courses are accredited with Fitness Australia, which means that you can earn continuing education points while you study!

Online Training CentreWith many of our courses, you receive access to our Online Training Centre. This contains videos on the entire course content – so you can learn it before you come along to the course. This means that when you attend the course, you can focus more on how to instruct well rather experiencing all the exercises for the first time. You can also use the online training centre for your ongoing study - maximising you learning before and after the course!

No Logging of Practical Instruction HoursThe Studio Pilates® courses do not require you to log any practical instruction hours. Everything you need to learn will be taught through the online training centre and during your course.

Modular CoursesOur courses are modular, which means that you can just do the Matwork course if you like. You are not locked in to doing a package of courses. This means that you can teach the exercises that you have learnt straight away after you finish the course.

Stress Free ExaminationThe examination process is easy and not stressful or scary. We ensure you have all the knowledge to complete your examination before you take it.

Ongoing Career Opportunities and SupportWe offer ongoing support to all of our instructors. We also provide job support through advertising job vacancies and sending out job alerts. We also offer a number of career opportunities – become a Licensed Instructor to teach Studio Pilates classes in a Licensed gym setting or own your own Studio Pilates franchise!

“I found this course so informative, practical and functional. I had done a Pilates course previously with another physiotherapy specific Pilates company, and feel like this course was much more comprehensive. It taught more exercises and went into more detail about each exercise. It contained more information about specific injuries and exercise prescription for injuries and it also taught me how to actually instruct and teach the exercises” – Jeannie K

Bones For many years, and to this day, a human skeleton has been used during consultations between our instructors and their clients to help educate and demonstrate the effects of the Studio Pilates class on the body. In this way, instructors are able to teach the benefits of Studio Pilates classes not only on the skeletal system and muscle tone, but also as a remedy to a wide range of injuries.

It is in this spirit that we present this skeleton named ‘Bones’ in each of our studios worldwide today. Bones reminds us that life is short and the importance of taking care of our bodies each day with rigorous exercise and healthy eating. Most importantly, Bones represents our rich Pilates past and the thousands of people whose lives have been transformed by their Studio Pilates classes. While this dapper gent may seem solemn in his appearance, do not be deceived – he actually has a wicked sense of humor.

Can I come earlier or later to courses?

Unfortunately you are not able to come later or leave earlier for any of the one day courses (Anatomy, Ball Circle Band, Advanced Matwork, Wunda Chair). This is because these courses cover a great deal of information in one day, and missing even one hour often means missing out on an entire series of exercises.

Please speak to your course advisor to receive specific information about missing out any portion of the 2 to 4 day courses. It may be possible for you to leave ½ hour to 1 hour early or arrive ½ hour to 1 hour late for some courses depending on which day this would be and how much learning you would miss. However if you need to miss more than ½ to 1 hour of the course, we recommend that you reschedule to the next course. If you do need to reschedule courses, please be aware of the Studio Pilates International® Reschedule Policy.

“I had already completed another Pilates training course, but did not feel ready to start teaching after it. I did the Studio Pilates courses for Allied Health professionals and could not believe how much more confident I was at teaching by the end of them, and how little teach practise we had done in the other course. I would highly recommend it. The manuals are also fantastic, as they contain everything you could ever want to know about every single exercise – very good for future reference, and the level of knowledge of the course developers shows through.” – Lauren M
