Road Trip Nation: State of Change - https://roadtripnation.com/roadtrip/indiana - In this new Roadtrip Nation special, follow the journeys of three post-secondary students from Indiana on a life-changing road trip to see how Indiana-grown ingenuity is keeping their home state at the cutting edge of rapid technological change. Airs March 4 at 1 a.m. Road Trip Nation (1400) (4/30 minute programs) - https://roadtripnation.com/roadtrip/watch - ROADTRIP NATION follows a group of roadtrippers as they traverse the United States and meet fascinating leaders who share stories of following their passions and realizing their dreams. airs Mondays at 4 a.m. beginning March 4.
#1401 - A new road trip begins! Road-trippers Ariel, Elicia, and Regina set off in the green RV to meet inspiring women in STEM who've forged their own paths. In Boston, they hear why Harvard professor Evelynn Hammonds went from physics to the history of science, and artist Janet Echelman, whose awe-inspiring sculptures sway above cities across the world, shares the importance of finding your own voice.
#1402 - In NYC, the road-trippers meet the mechanical engineer who's pushing touch technology into the future. Katherine Kuchenbecker is working on haptic technologies that will shape medicine, commerce, and more. Next up, artist and activist Zaria Forman talks about the transformative power of travel, and entrepreneur Jewel Burks tells her gutsy story of building a company from the ground up.
#1403 - As the road-trippers head south, they visit NASA's largest rocket engine test facility and meet two women who are launching America into space and proving that there isn't just one path to success. Then, with former MIT Media Lab professor Leah Buechley, the team sees how merging your interests can create something amazing, and inspire more girls to pursue STEM and create amazing things, too.
#1404 - The road-trippers end their journey in San Francisco, where they meet Debbie Sterling and hear about the experiences that sparked her company, GoldieBlox, which makes engineering toys for girls. Last up, Myth Busters' Kari Byron talks about experimentation, curiosity, being brave, and doing things you didn't think you could do; but her most important work is being a role model for young girls.
Courageous Learning - http://education.excelsior.edu/courageous-learning/ - follows the lives of three adult students: Shawn, Joe, and Angeline -a veteran, a single dad, and a nurse - as they face obstacles in the pursuit of higher education. Experts, including leaders from academia, think tanks, government, and nonprofits, provide a guide to the landscape of post-secondary education in the 21st century - and reveal it as terrain that too few travel. Narrated by actor Dennis Haysbert.
Airs 3/11 at 1:30 a.m. (3/18 at 2:30 a.m.)
Finding Home: A Foster Youth Story - https://www.pbs.org/show/finding-home-foster-youth-story/ - The remarkable story of four foster youth preparing for life outside the foster care system. Summer, 17 and transgender, yearns to be adopted. Glorianna, 19 and an artist, struggles to live on her own after spending 12 years in a group home. Jaloni and Kalonji, 18-year-old twins, grew up in poverty, but become star athletes and scholars with the help of two loving adults. Airs 3/18 at 1
a.m.
Slow Way Home - The way children travel to school structures daily life for families around the world-but the means differs dramatically. In Japan 98 percent of children walk to school every day, unaccompanied by a parent. In the United States just 13 percent of children walk or bike to school, and most are driven to school by a parent. The Slow Way Home explores this divergence, examining how American families have largely given up on keeping our streets and public spaces safe enough for children, while Japanese communities have mobilized to keep their streets safe and walkable, not only for children but for everyone in society. Seen through both a historical and contemporary framing, The Slow Way Home is an uplifting examination of differences in culture that provides both insight into a distressing trend in American society and simultaneously offers hope for change. Airs 3/25 at 1 a.m. Hard Problems: The Road to the World’s Toughest Math - HARD PROBLEMS follows the six exceptional high school students who represented the United States in 2006 at the world's toughest math competition - the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOL MONTH
Music In Our Schools Month® is an annual celebration during March which engages music educators, students, and communities from around the country in promoting the benefits of high quality music education programs in schools. Classical 91.5 is partnering with the Rochester Education Foundation to collect musical instruments and supplies to provide used musical instruments for Rochester city students, increase city students' musical performance opportunities, support the purchase of musical instruments for in-school use, and provide summer music lessons for students. The program also provides new musical instruments to enable college-bound students to be successful. If you don't have an instrument to donate, you can support REF's work to send RCSD students to summer music camps.
