INTRODUCTION

"Education is what survives when what is learned has beenforgotten."

-B.F.Skinner

India has the second-largest population in the world and as

such holds the second highest number of human resources. The scale of growth the country covers and the statistics of the development it goes through depend heavily on how wellthese resources are nurtured and utilized.

From 25 universities in 1947, India has around 300universities but, the enrollment number is still lagging behinddisastrously. The quality of education being provided is not thesame throughout the country.

Ø The main aim of an institution is to impart into its studentspersonality integration and creative intelligence. Aninstitution’s profit is attained by achieving its ultimate goal.

i.e- development of its pupil.

Ø But the institution needs to survive in this global market toadhere to its aim and give the best services to its students.

Ø

Ø It needs to time an again check the rest of the world andupgrade itself in course curriculum, technology andinfrastructure too.

Ø

Achieving all three is not an easy task. A new method can beimplemented to an old approach for a better benefit.

Lean approach applies the technique of elimination of wastes.Wastes can be of many forms, whether cost, time or energy.

Lean gives us a better understanding by categorizing wastes.

Each waste is somehow interconnected to each other

Any non value addedactivity

Irregularity in flow…work flow, student

flow etc

Any strenuouscondition for bothstudents and teachers

’ Waste is nobody s friend

 What can be done???

ØReduce paper work by implementing a centralized

computing system for registration of schools.

ØChalk and blackboards can be replaced by white boardand black marker pen.Ø

ØProper and fixed time slots must be given tocandidates so as to avoid time wastage.Ø

ØSmart card and Bio-metric attendance scheme canbe applied to avoid the problem.Ø

ØProper infrastructure facilities must be provided toreduce killing of time and cost of studies.

 What can be done???

ØMaking the accounting system computerized will

reduce the cost of paper work and will also eliminate theproblem of space for record keeping.

ØEmploying efficient persons will result in proper accounting and reduction in delays due to errors.

ØInstallation of a proper monitoring system at a blocklevel including monthly inspection will remove theproblem of funds dislocation.

ØProviding better infrastructure will eliminate theproblem of stressful condition.

ØRecruiting trained and better faculties for all

the levels(primary , middle & secondary) of school .

ØFaculty should use different styles of teaching

like picture presentation, class activities to buildup interest among students.

ØThe class schedule should be prepared in a

manner that no faculty should be idle at any timeslot.Ø

ØThe course curriculum should be in accordanceto the mental level of the student age group and

there interests so that there is a smooth flow of knowledge.

ØThe emphasis should be more on application

based learning.

ØA separate time slot every week for extracurricular activities should be incorporated in the

schedule for the development of extra skills instudents.

 What can be done???

ØConverting a group of 4-5 schools in a block and then

having a centralized library for them will eliminate theproblem of space ,time and stress .Ø

ØStarting an online service of E-library will bring manybooks within the reach of students and will enhance thelevel of education.Ø

ØAlso keeping the electronic record of the books willreduce the burden and will make it easier to issue and

manage them.•

Ø Proper discharge of sewage water should be done , toilets

having one cleaning personnel every time.Ø

Ø Implementing push tap system rather than regular rotatingtaps to avoid excess spilling of water.

Ø

Ø Proper monitoring of food quality. Also by procuring cerealsfrom PDS at lower price levels and introducing mid-daymeals at nominal cost.

Ø

Ø Reusable utensils (like steel spoons and plates) can beused to minimize the waste and cost of buying usable

items again and again.Ø

Ø Smart card system should be implemented to reduce timewastage

Indian educators are faced with seemingly impossible challenges in the 21st century.

They are expected to prepare today’s youth for work in international companies thatmake up our global society using an education system that was developed over 100years ago.

The other tasks that should be performed in order to improve the overall institution are:

 What else can be done?

Page 25: edusys ppt

8/7/2019 edusys ppt

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/edusys-ppt 25/26

Ø Lean management is not a new concept, but it is new for theeducation industry.

Ø

Ø Forward thinking educators think both the applications andimplications Lean has for improving the school operations andprogram outcomes.

Ø

Ø Lean process improvement, even though with limited introductionwithin the education institution has resulted in increasedperformance and cost saving.

Ø

Ø Lean school cultures have provided a positive CAN-DO attitude, greater involvement and vested ownership in processes thatsupport student learning

Ø

Ø Schools determined to meet today’s challenge of doing more with lessshould give Lean Process Improvement a close consideration.
