Welcome to Eidsvold P-12 State School 2020 Ngara Yumbin, welcome back to school for 2020. I’m not too sure about anyone else but I am absolutely stoked to be back. The first week at school has been eerily quiet; I am guessing that everyone is still recovering from their holidays.

This year our staff returned a bit earlier to spend a couple of days to meet around what this year will look like. One of our big discus-sion points was around strengthening our Champion’s program to support our high school students to succeed well after leaving school. Part of this plan is to be able to offer pathways in subjects through the School of Distance Ed. We have worked closely with the SDE over the last couple of years and spent quite a bit of time setting up our school to cater for students to access quality teachers and lessons through this model.

Another focus will be around strengthening our PBL (Positive Be-haviour for Leaning) framework. Our school has seen a massive decline in behaviour incidents over the last three years and we would like to see that continue. We are looking at holding a PBL information night at the school around the middle of this term to talk about our current initiatives and gather some community feedback around behaviour.

A focus on academic success

This week I met with secondary and primary classes and spoke about our ability as a school and individuals to be successful. It is no secret that if students turn up regularly to a safe and supportive school that they will do well. There is another factor to this equation as well, our kids must be championed by teachers that care about them and want them to do well. This year I have recruited some teachers that I hold in the highest regard in the teaching profes-sion. Teaching is rocket science and the ability to teach to a di-

verse group of students sometimes comes with a bit of experience. That is why I would like to personally welcome Mr Spencer, Miss Hudson, Miss Bettiens and Ms Trudie to the team. I have known some of these teachers for over a decade and I know that they will not only be champions for our students but will also play an active part in our community.

Welcome back to a new year at Eidsvold State School and I hope you have all had a great first week. It was great to see so many excited students returning this year and welcome to our new staff, students and families

joining us this year. We have a very exciting year ahead of us, and I know the staff and students are all keen to kick some big goals and continue to make our school great. I am also very excited to be stepping back into the classroom, teaching Primary HPE and team teaching years 7 – 10 HPE with Mrs Smith. I am also taking on Sports Coordinator, so will include a Sports News piece in the newsletter every fortnight.

This year we are continuing to strive towards reaching our target attendance rate of 95%. We will be continuing to track attendance data across all year levels and displaying it on our weekly attendance chart in the office foyer. New this year, I will also be presenting an atten-dance award to a student who has 100% for the week. The student will be chosen through a lucky draw from all students who have 100% attendance for that week. At the end of each term, the class with the highest attendance rate will also be presented with the attendance shield and a class prize.

We have another busy year ahead of us in sport, with many sports trials just around the cor-ner. For each district sport throughout the year, a nomination form will be sent home with those students who are interested. A list of upcoming sports nominations will also be listed in the fortnightly newsletter.

If a student is wanting to nominate for a sport, it is their responsibility to return the completed form and required money to the office by the due date specified on the form. We will be fol-lowing a strict policy around due dates this year, with late nominations not being accepted and payment must also be handed in by the due date.

Upcoming Due Dates for Sports Nominations:

The first round of nomination forms went out today and are due back to the school office by close of business, Friday 7th February. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school.

Welcome New Teacher

Adam Spencer

My name is Adam Spencer and I’ve joined the teaching staff of Eidsvold State School this year to teach Mathematics, Digi-tal Technologies and Sport and Recreation. I have been a teacher for 14 years and look forward to having a chat with you. I’ll be offering after school Mathematics sessions for stu-dents on a Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 4. It has been a fan-tastic start to the year and I look forward to working in such a positive and supportive school.

Welcome New Teacher Chantal Hudson

Ngara Yumbin,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and spent quality time with your family and friends. My name is Chantal Hudson and I am very excited to be joining the Eidsvold family. This year I am teaching the year 5/6 class and will be taking part in the Wakka Wakka Language Program. I have been teaching for 13 years and have had the op-portunity to do so, not only in Australia, but also in London. Communication is key and I ask that if you ever have any concerns or queries that you pop in and see me or make an appointment.

I am looking forward in getting to know your child and help them enhance their strengths and reach their goals. As well as getting to know the wider community of Eidsvold. I am very excited to be a part of a team that is so welcoming and encouraging. Here’s to a productive and rewarding, yet fun year ahead.
