History is who we are and why we are the way we are. DAVID C. MCCULLOUGH Course Goals: As a result of the MYP program, students will study historical trends and events that allow them the opportunity to investigate approaches to learning, foster critical thinking, understand key vocabulary, and develop reading strategies. Students will be given the opportunity to work together in a cooperative group setting. In addition, students will also become aware of global events and make a connection as global citizens to solving problems & identifying trends ranging from U.S. Reconstruction, U.S. Industrialization & Inventions, Labor Movement, Immigration, Imperialism, World War I, Great Depression, World War II, Cold War, Civil Rights to present. IB goals are to encourage and enable students to develop: inquiring mind, a sense of time and place, respect for understanding of people, cultures, and events in a variety of places and times, understanding of the interactions and independence of individuals, societies, and their environments, understand the causes and effects of change through physical and human actions and processes, a sense of internationalism and a desire to be proactive as a responsible global citizen, an awareness of the connections with other subjects, and a lifelong interest in and enjoyment of humanities. Course Materials: Humanities Text Book: America – History of Our Nation – Prentice Hall Our Federal & State Constitutions A People’s History of the United States Humanities blue notebook, blue folder, pencils, pens, flash drive Course Grading Breakdown: Class Participation & Discussions !
