1 PRESIDENT’S CORNER This is the last scheduled newsletter of the year. And quite a year it’s been since COVID-19 struck last spring. It has caused substantial disruption in our lives, but I’m thankful that my friends and family have avoided this terrible disease and that Green Valley has been mostly unscathed. I’m hopeful that several vaccines will be available in the coming months and life can begin to return to normal. Rick Nelson, with input from the various committees, has put together our 2021 budget that was approved by the Board at the November Board meeting. Our annual assessments will remain the same, in part due to the willingness to fund part of the recent road project with a special assessment. Kudos go to our Common Grounds committee headed by Melva Irvin and Susan Friedrich. The grounds are looking great. In addition, the committee’s proposal to replace decaying railroad ties with rip rap will help stabilize the slopes around the neighborhood and begin eliminating the railroad ties that are subject to weather damage. Although elections aren’t until March, the process requires the Nominating Committee to find candidates this time of year. Two seats will be open. Pat Isaacson is heading the committee. If you have an interest in one of the two seats, please contact Pat. While some work is involved, being on the Board is not terribly difficult. If you are thinking about it, but have some questions, feel free to talk to me, one of the other Board members, or someone on the Nominating Committee. We bid farewell to our friends Lucy Redding and Tom Swenson who left to live in La Posada. Lucy was involved in nominations, communications and elections for a number of years. Tom maintained our database and handled resales. They will be missed, and we wish them the best in their new home. Wishing everyone in our community a safe and happy holiday season and a happy new year. El Pájaro Press Canoa Seca Estates II Newsletter www.cseii.com November 2020

PRESIDENT’S CORNER This is the last scheduled newsletter of the year.

You will note that the flags that have been decorating the sides of the streets for some time are now gone. In addition, the RR ties near the curbs on Trogon, Tordo, and Urraca will also be gone in the near future. The ties were installed almost 20 years ago in an effort to inhibit further erosion on those 3 streets. Many have deteriorated and the flags were placed to indicate which ones needed to be replaced. However, in checking with different landscape companies it became evident that it would be expensive to replace the ties and would be better to use rip rap where needed. In many areas the rocks can be raked back so they are level with the curb – as you can see on Tejedor and Garzota. Consequently, the ties will be removed from the curb sides, and parking areas and, where necessary rip rap will be used to keep the small rocks out of the streets. In addition, the ties around the mailboxes will be removed and replaced with rip rap.

Mochomo’s Landscaping has been doing an excellent job with our grounds. If you have anything that you feel needs to be done, please let me know. If I receive your request and it does not need to be approved by the committee, I will put it on the worksheet that I send in each Wednesday by noon. The crew will usually complete the work within 2 weeks.

We are emailing the 2021 assessments on 12/1/2020.

The invoices will be sent via email from [email protected]. Please be sure to add this email address into your email contacts so it doesn't end up in your spam folder.

The amount is $480.00. Your payment is due by 1/1/2021.

A late fee of 48.00 will be applied to all uncollected assessments on 1/31/2021. Please be sure to include your signed invoice with your payment. One signature is sufficient.

Please email the above email address by 12/2/2020 if you prefer to receive your invoice from the USPS mail. Note: The middle of the Annual Assessment Invoice has some additional information about each lot’s past assessment payments. ARS 33-1807 had a revision effective 1/1/2020 that states: “The statement of account shall include the current account balance due and the immediately preceding ledger history.” Payment details for each lot are populated on the form, including last payments received, Check # and amount paid. We need the lower section reviewed and signed by at least ONE homeowner of the lot, attesting that you comply with the HOPA requirement of at least one person occupying the lot over 55 years of age. Please sign and return this invoice along with your payment. –Thank you!

We wish Lucy Redding a fond farewell and thank her for the many years she contributed to the success of our HOA. Lucy was Communications Committee Chair, Nominations Committee Chair and she was responsible for our annual HOA Directory. Thanks also, to Tom Swenson for the tireless job of maintaining our HOA database and electronic communications. We will truly miss you both and we wish you well.

The annual decorating of the monuments will take place on Saturday, Nov. 28th. If you are interested in helping, meet at the Estelar/Trogon monument at 10am.

    (Last Year’s decorations)

Before we could decorate this year, the monuments needed a little cleaning because of our bird friends.

Many thanks to Barbara Wray, Frauke Rosenthal and Kathleen Brady for their clean-up efforts.

As we published our September newsletter Susan & Fred Callender were just arriving to settle their new home at 3786 Reyecuelo. As is often the case they learned of Green Valley through one of Fred’s golfing partners who often relayed his enjoyment of this area during their play. When this friend moved to GV, Susan and Fred decided to come and see it for themselves. The rest is history. They both “really” retired this time, sold the big property in Black Forest, CO and began pursuing their leisure interests. For Fred that will include rebuilding his golf game after some time recovering from joint repair surgeries. Susan treasures her free time after a long-varied career in nursing. Writing & sharing fiction with her writing group is an enjoyable pastime. Fabric arts have always been a passion and now that her time is all her own…she will simply let her creative energies lead her where they will. Our newest neighbors, Rod Skoe and Sarah Hoagberg are moving into 3881 Urraca this week. They have come all the way from Clearbrook, Minnesota where they, with their son, manage their family farm cultivating wild rice, red potatoes, black beans and more. Their plan is to spend four to five months enjoying all that GVR has to offer and then head back to Minnesota fresh and ready for the next year’s farming challenges. Rod was able to take a few golf lessons when he visited the area last season and is hoping to make golf a happy habit. Sarah enjoys the plethora of clubs and classes available to GVR members. Rod’s sister moved to Green Valley a while back so they will enjoy family in both regions. What a great work & play plan!

My name is Cali Isaacson and I live with Pat and Ray on Garzota. I am a toy golden doodle originally from Michigan. This was my first summer in the desert. We sure have to get up early before it gets too hot for my main walk of the day. I think I’m the only dog in the hood with my own golf cart which is even better than a car for rides. I love going visiting and chasing rabbits. I’ve never

caught one yet but just wait . . .The first day in our Green Valley home, I chased one across the road into the crushed rocks and got stickers in all my feet so I don’t go on the rocks any more. I also like it when Ray takes me for bike rides in the rumble seat. I love this freedom and feeling the wind flapping my ears.

Rattlesnake training was very scary. I hope I don’t ever see one up close.

I am one of three Bellas in CSE II, but only I am Bella the Wabbit Hunter. That's my job every morning when my human takes me on a wabbit walk patrolling CSEII. My wecord, so far, is five wabbits in one walk. Only my leash keeps me from getting lost wunning after all these cwazy wabbits. A walk without a wabbit sighting (and there have been a few) wastes time when I could have been playing slime ball instead (my toy ball gets slimy after a few fetches). In January 2020, Nikki Vick and Ray Styles adopted me from a no-kill shelter in Nogales AZ. The shelter said I am a terrier/pug mix, but I am not pugnacious--

-usually. And I am exactly what my humans wanted: petite (12 pounds after a diet), playful, house-trained (99% of the time), mature (6 years old), quiet (unless I see a wabbit), and thrilled to be a forever companion to my humans (that's reciprocal).

PET CORNER You probably see several of our neighbors out walking their pets every day. We decided to profile the pets, so you get to know them and their owners.

Hi, I’m Rocket. I’m an 11-year-old Shih Tzu/Maltese and I live with John and Laurel Brink. They both tell other humans that I’m the perfect dog. That’s very true. I love my life and can’t figure out why other dogs are so uptight. I know that I’m expected to behave like a dog at times, so I do bark when the doorbell rings and can’t help barking at the UPS truck. My favorite thing to bark at though, are those giant black birds that have an obnoxious low voice. They like to sit up on the edge of our garage roof

and look down at me. I don’t want them getting too close to my people, so I keep up a loud bark to scare them off. It usually works. I have also been perfecting my two-leg ballet routine with my front legs circling in the air. I like to perform this for guests and sure enough, I am usually rewarded with a cookie. See you around the neighborhood!

My name is Ruby, and I am a 9-year-old Whoodle (half Wheaton terrier and half standard poodle).

My mom & dad (Ed & Ginny Lippert) brought me home when I was 8 weeks old. I grew to be a bit bigger than they were expecting but I have three brothers that are bigger than me.

When I am excited to see a friend (especially if they have cookies) I will bounce upright on my back legs like a kangaroo. My mom calls me a kangaroodle.

I love to walk the neighborhood to smell all the usual places and watch for bunnies. I never get to

chase them, but it is fun to scare them off. I also like to chase the lizards in our yard, but Mom won’t let me catch them.

I have travelled to several states in our RV (nicknamed Ruby’s Roadhouse) to visit my human family members. I love going camping and visiting friends and family.

    VOLUNTEERS

The success of our HOA is due to the volunteers we have to staff the board of directors and the various committees. We are in need of several more volunteers to fill some vacancies.

    • The Architectural Committee has an opening. If interested, contact Tim Stewart.

    • We need an alternate representative to the GV Council. If interested, contact Bob Allen.

    • The Welcome Committee is looking for 2-3 members for Estelar, Trogon and Garzota. If interested, contact Leslie Kush.

    • Governing Documents Committee needs a chairperson. If interested, contact Sam Schaen

    • The Board of Directors will have two openings for the coming year. If interested, contact Pat Isaacson for more information.

Thank You to all who are serving or have served our beautiful neighborhood.
