AMI1O1/ Instrumental Music (Band) (Beginner) Never played an instrument or perhaps have had a couple of years on piano and would like to play another Instrument? Then, this is the course for you. AMI1O2 Instrumental Music (Band) (Experienced) This course is designed for those students who have had 2 years of instruction on their band instrument.

AMIS1O1 Instrumental Music (Strings) (Beginner) Never played an instrument or perhaps have had a couple of years on piano or band and would like to play a string instrument? Then, this is the course for you.

AMIS1O1 Instrumental Music (Strings) (Experienced) This course is designed for those students who have had 2 years of instruction on their string instrument.

AMV1O1 Music Vocal/Choral This course is a practical study of the voice and singing for both beginning and experienced students.

Visual Arts AVI1O1 Visual Arts This course is exploratory in nature, offering an overview of visual arts as a foundation for further study.

Dramatic Arts ADA1O1 Dramatic Arts This course provides opportunities for students to explore dramatic forms and techniques, using material from a wide range of sources and cultures.

Health and Physical Education PPL1OV (Girls) PPL1OU (Boys) Healthy and Active Living This course equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to make health choices now and leading healthy, active lives in the future.

Business BTT2O1 Information & Communication Technologies This course introduces students to information and communication technology. in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society.

Technology TGJ1O1 Exploring Communications Technology This exploratory course introduces students to concepts and skills in communications technology, which encompasses television/video and movie production, radio and audio production, print and graphic communications, photography, and interactive new media and animation.

AMI 101 Experienced Instrumental Music

Designed for students who have been in an instrumental (band) music class se�ng for a minimum of one year. 

AMI 102 Beginning Instrumental Music

Designed for students who are playing a band instrument for the �rst �me. Students choose an instrument based on availability from the following: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto , Tenor or      Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Percussion.

AMS 101 Experienced Instrumental Music

Designed for students who have been in an instrumental (strings) music class for a       minimum of one year. 

AMS 102 Beginning Instrumental Music

Designed for students who are playing a string instrument for the �rst �me. Students choose an instrument based on availability   from the following: violin, viola, and cello.

MUSIC VOCAL/CHORAL

AMV 101 ‐ The study of the voice and    singing for both beginning and experienced students, incorpora�ng microphone and voice recording techniques with/without piano and/or guitar accompaniment.

AVI 1O1This course offers an overview of the Visual Arts as a foundation for further study. Students will become familiar with the Elements and Principles of Design and the expressive qualities of various materials through working with a range of mediums, processes, techniques and styles. They will learn methods of analysis and criticism and will study the many genres of Art and history throughout the Ages.

DRAMATIC ARTS ADA1O1 DRAMATIC ARTS

This introduction course requires students to actively explore dramatic forms and techniques, using their own ideas and concerns as well as sources selected from a wide range of authors, genres, and cultures. Student learning will include identifying and using the principles of space, time, voice and movement in creating, sustaining, and communicating authentic roles within drama. Through the students’ exploration of the development of theatre, they will come to an understanding of how theatre reflects their personal life experience. By the end of the course, the students will have the opportunity to experience the many varied aspects of production and presentation.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION PPL1OV / PPL1OU HEALTHY AND ACTIVE LIVING

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.

INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN BUSINESS

BTT201 This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website design skills using industry standard software (MS Office). Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills, and current issues (eg. ergonomics, piracy, viruses/spyware, identify theft, ransomware, cyberbullying) related to the impact of information and communication technology.

SCHOOL PLAYS Drama

The Dramatic Arts program includes opportunities for students to participate in student written, produced, directed plays for the community. Grade Nine’s are welcome to audition or participate behind the scenes!

BUSINESS CERTIFICATE Business Students interested in Business are able to receive a Nationally Recognized Focus on Information Technology (FIT) Business Certificate. To be eligible, students must complete five credits in Business, Law or Computer Studies during their four years at Michael Power/St. Jospeh

POWERTV Technology The Film and Graphics Club (POWER TV) is active creating posters, tickets and other materials for events and school galleries and beautification. In addition to printed materials, the video crew is busy documenting all of the amazing events on film.
