What is water scarcity?

- Simply stated, water scarcity is either the lack of enough water or the lack of access to clean, safe water.

- Water scarcity already affects every continent. Around

1.2 billion people, or almost one-fifth of the world's population, live in areas of physical scarcity, and 500 million people are approaching this situation.


There is a critical need to integrate water and environmental management, as provided for under the concept of integrated water resource management.

Water security may be the biggest emerging water problem across North America, South America, & the Caribbean region.

Latin American and Caribbean countries face many of the same problems as countries with chronic fresh water shortages. Less than 20 percent have access to adequate sanitation systems.

Challenge A fish meat processing plant wanted to reduce their effluent discharge costs and eliminate

chemical cost in primary waste water treatment.

SolutionGenesis Water Technologies with its local partner provided engineering, and design of a electrocoagulation solution with prescreen and post solids separation that eliminated chemical usage in the primary clarification process.

The flocculated solids could be used as a valuable source of renewable energy. The independent laboratory analysis showed that the floc had a solids content of 42.3%, of which 29.7% was fat.

Benefits 70% reduction in discharge charges and potential to reuse water as well as utilizing solids

floc to create renewable energy to reduce power costs.


Textile Case Study

Challenge A textile company wanted to reuse the wastewater coming from their process and textile

dyeing operations to reduce their fresh water consumption costs and maintain compliance with increasingly stricter discharge regulations.

SolutionGenesis Water Technologies with its local partner provided engineering, and design of a electrocoagulation solution with prescreen and post solids separation, followed by membrane filtration treatment.

Benefits 75% reduction in discharge charges. Additional operating cost reductions were witnessed

from the reduction of fresh water consumption used in the textile washing and dyeing processes.


Domestic Waste Water Case Study

Challenge A municipality wanted to optimize their current wastewater treatment process with the

addition of tertiary wastewater treatment to be reused for irrigation, and other domestic non potable client applications.

SolutionGenesis Water Technologies with its local partner provided engineering, and design of a electrocoagulation solution with prescreen and post filtration and chemical free disinfection.

Benefits Ability to reuse approximately 75-80% of secondary waste water for usage in irrigation

and other non potable applications. Using this treated water, reduced both the cost of supplying fresh water for these purposes and reduced discharge to the environment which reduced environmental impact.
