• There are a significant number of standards initiatives in process - many are overlapping
• No one standard stands out as a leader
• Major players are participating in multiple standards efforts
• The process is S L O W while technology is moving F A S T . . .
Objective of Standards Organizations
• Create an open, vendor-neutral, scaleable and secure standard for conducting electronic purchasing over the internet
– lower purchasing, accounts payable, and order processing costs
– improve end-user satisfaction and channel more indirect purchases towards contracted suppliers
– for selling organizations - a key new channel for selling goods and services
