Eliodomestico – Water Distillation
The Eliodomestico is an eco-distiller running on solar power, to provide safe drinking water for people in developing countries. Many people in developing countries do not have access to adequate and affordable supplies of potable water. This leads to a concentration of the population around existing water supplies as well as inadequate health conditions, and low standards of living. The areas with the severest water shortages are the warm, arid countries in Northern and Southern Africa and West and Southern Asia.Moreover, the regions in most need of additional fresh water are the regions with intense solar radiation. In view of these facts, desalination with solar energy seems to be a realistic hope for a new source of fresh water. As a very simple way to produce freshwater, starting from sea or brackish water, the device produces 5 to 9 liters daily (for every sqm of black surface irradiated by the sun), through a direct solar-powered distillation process.

Eliodomestico works without filters or electricity, it requires minimal maintenance, is made from local materials and uses simple technologies. It can be manufactured at low costs in developing countries.
